âBruce?â Thalassaâs face instantly contorted with rage and disgust as she wiped away her tear and said firmly, âIâm calling the cops right now!â
She made a move to get out of bed to find her phone.
Evelynâs grip on her wrist trembled as she spoke in a terrified whisper, âDonât call the cops, Thalassa, please donât!â
Turning back to Evelyn, Thalassa saw the fear and shame in her eyes, which only heightened her own concern. âIf we get the police to lock him up for decades, he wonât be able to hurt anyone else.â
âHeâs got a video,â Evelyn choked out between sobs. âHe said if I go to the police, heâll leak it online.
And with how things spread these days⦠if it gets out, I⦠Iâ¦â She couldnât finish the sentence.
Thalassa had just pulled her back from the brink.
âWhat?â Thalassa was shaking with shock and fury.
What a scumbag! A monster!
Bruce had recorded a video!
Was he trying to drive her mother to her grave?
âMom, donât think like that, please. Iâll find a way to get that video and destroy it. Just donât dwell on it,â
Thalassa said, squeezing Evelynâs hand, trying to comfort her.
She was terrified of Evelyn giving up hope.
âWeâre moving out tonight. We canât stay here any longer,â Thalassa said with a pained voice, tears brimming in her eyes.
She was grateful that her motherâs hand, still warm in hers, was alive.
Evelyn turned her gaze away, not wanting to see the worry and pain on Thalassaâs face, and silently let her tears fall.
They had both been through too much sorrow.
That very night, Thalassa began packing some clothes and left the Vibrant Oasis Residences with Evelyn.
They took a taxi to the Central Ring Villa and found the house. Opening the door, they were greeted by the luxurious atmosphere.
Evelyn, who was astonished, asked, âThalassa, where did this house come from? This must cost a fortune.â
Wanting to ease her motherâs worries, Thalassa said, âItâs assigned to me by the company. As long as I keep working at the Crawley Group, we can stay here.â
She couldnât tell Evelyn that the house had been prepared for her by Leopold before he passed away.
âWhy havenât I heard before that your company would provide you with accommodation?â Evelyn was still concerned.
Thalassa replied, âI hadnât requested it before. I applied a few days ago, and it got approved today.â
âIs that so? Well, thatâs a relief,â Evelyn said, nodding, her anxiety easing as she walked in to explore the place.
The villa was two stories high, with a living area on the first floor and bedrooms on the second, although there were also rooms on the first floor.
Evelyn chose the room near the living room on the ground floor and said to Thalassa, âIâll take this one.
I need a shower.â
As she spoke, her eyes fell, and a blush of embarrassment crept up her cheeks.
âMom, if thereâs something you need, just tell me,â Thalassa urged, sensing Evelynâs difficulty in voicing her request.
After a brief pause and a thought, Evelyn whispered, âCould you⦠could you pick up a pack of birth control pills for me?â
A sharp pain pierced Thalassaâs heart.
