Just the mere thought of it made a knot form in Thalassaâs stomach.
Her hand, clenched tightly around the papers, slightly lifted, her eyes meeting those of Callum. âHow did you come to possess the contract of this house?â she asked.
âWell,â Callum started, his casual demeanor slipping into something more serious. âYou see, back in the states, Leopold was not just my business partner, but also my closest friend. We founded Leossa Tech together. The Sinclair group only bought out our domestic branch, but the international headquarters has always been managed by me.â
Leopold had left to work abroad after he and Thalassa broke up, thatâs when he met Callum. They hit it off instantly, and together they established Leossa Tech.
Over the past five years, Callum had become Leopoldâs best friend. He shared everything with Callum, nothing was left unsaid. Leopoldâs ultimate love was Thalassa, and everything he did was to win her back, to provide her with a secure future. Unbeknownst to him, Thalassa had given birth to four children with Leopoldâs rival, Lysander.
Upon hearing about Callumâs relationship with Leopold, Thalassaâs heart clenched. Although Callum hadnât yet revealed the details about the house contract, it was enough to confirm her worst suspicions.
Thalassaâs breath trembled, a pang of pain in her heart.
Callum continued, âLeopold knew you were selling the villa, and he knew you were trying to liquidate it to repay Lysander. So, he asked me to step in. The money was transferred into your account, but the ownership of the house was never transferred.â
That meant the villa was still legally Thalassaâs.
âBut⦠I went through the process of transferring the titleâ¦â Thalassa stuttered, her mind racing.
She couldnât believe that the villa was still in her name.
âThe real estate agent went through the motions with you, but your forms and documents were never submitted,â Callum explained.
In other words, the transfer of ownership had never actually happened.
The money was given to Thalassa, but the villa remained hers.
As Thalassa grasped the situation more fully, the pain in her heart deepened, and her grip on the papers in her hand tightened even further.
âWhy? Why would he do something like this?â Thalassa asked, her voice barely above a whisper, pain evident in her eyes.
âHe wanted to leave you a place to live; he didnât want to see you homeless.â Callum replied.
Thalassaâs heart pounded in her chest, âHe wanted to leave me a place to live? What does that mean?â
âIt seems you still donât understand just how much he loved you,â Callumâs tone turned solemn.
His hand gripped the cup, but he didnât take another sip.
âOne could say he would do anything that benefited you, even if it cost him his life,â Callumâs face remained calm, but the veins on his hand were popping.
It was not until he spotted Thalassa at a party that he realized who Thalassa was. Even then, he wasnât sure until he saw Lysander enter with four children, rushing toward Thalassa, calling her âMotherâ.
Only then was Callum certain that she was the Thalassa that Leopold always talked about- the woman Leopold loved the most.
The tears that had been shimmering in Thalassaâs eyes spilled over. Her lips trembled, her shoulders stiff, and her chin quivered.
She bit her lower lip to prevent herself from crying.
Seeing Thalassaâs tears made Callumâs heart ache even more. He still couldnât accept the fact that Leopold was gone..
