Thalassa looked at him in surprise, saying, âLysander, the gifts are trulyâ¦â
They were something Mr. Ethan asked her to pick up.
Before she could finish her sentence, Lysander interrupted her with his deep, intense gaze, âLetâs go upstairs. Donât just stand there.â
Thalassa was taken aback. She glanced at the gifts he was holding, then back at him. He hadnât handed the gifts to her, but held onto it.
Was he planning on going upstairs with her, gifts and all?
âMaybe you should go home. The kids must be back from school by now, and if they donât see their mother, thatâs one thing, but if they donât see their father either, theyâll worry,â Thalassa said to Lysander, not wanting him to come to her house.
Her mother was at home and if she saw Thalassa and Lysander together, she might get her hopes up thinking Lysander was serious about her and might marry her.
Thalassa had accepted the reality and didnât harbor any naive hopes anymore. She also didnât want her mother to have any illusions.
Knowing her mother, if she thought there was hope, she would interfere, causing a whole lot of trouble and awkwardness.
âIf knowing they would worry, why did you come here?â Lysander asked, not giving her a chance to refuse. With long strides, he walked towards the building.
Thalassa had no choice but to follow.
âWe donât need to bring the gifts,â Thalassa said.
âYou bought them, so you should have them,â Lysander responded.
Thalassa was left speechless.
She had bought three boxes of health supplements, meant as get-well gifts. Now, it seemed she would be the one to benefit from them.
When Thalassa and Lysander reached her apartment, they heard noises inside, including the sound of shattering glass.
âIf you donât stop harassing Bruce, Iâll kill you! You home wrecker! You shameless woman!â A womanâs shrill voice echoed inside.
âGet out of our house. Youâre not welcome here!â Evelyn huffed and puffed.
Recognizing her motherâs voice, Thalassa quickly unlocked the door and rushed in.
The sight that greeted her made her blood curdle.
Broken crockery lay scattered all over the floor. The furniture was toppled over and the room was in utter chaos.
Evelyn was entangled in a physical fight with a tall, thin middle-aged woman. They were pulling each otherâs hair, A younger woman was standing next to Evelyn, slapping her back while shouting, âYou wench, let go of my mom! If you donât, Iâll beat you to death!â
It was clearly two against one!
Seeing her mother being assaulted, Thalassa was filled with anger. She rushed over, using her momentum to shove the young woman who was hitting her mother.
The woman stumbled back and landed on the couch.
Thalassa pointed an accusing finger at her, âWho gave you the right to hit my mother?!â
After speaking, she turned to see the middle-aged woman still grappling with Evelyn. Looking around, Thalassa spotted a shard of broken porcelain on the floor. She picked it up and pressed it against the womanâs wrist, threatening, âLet go of my mother, or Iâll cut your hand!â
The shard of porcelain dug into the womanâs skin, causing her to panic.
She was terrified. Her wrist was at stake. If it was cut, she might bleed to death.
Nothing was more important than her life. Fearful for her life, the woman quickly released her grip on Evelynâs hair,
