Ethan brewed two cups of espresso at the bar, then made his way over to Thalassa, handing her one.
Thalassa was taken aback, hurriedly accepting the coffee from him. âThank you, Mr. Ethan.â
Making coffee was something a secretary should do. The fact that Mr. Ethan was doing it himself was stunning!
Thalassaâs heart pounded in her chest, unsure of what was happening.
âSit down, will you?â Ethan settled himself on the couch in the reception area, signaling for Thalassa to join him.
Thalassa walked over, sitting across from him, her heart in turmoil, uncertain of why Ethan had called her over.
âMr. Ethan, is there a task you need me to handle?â Thalassa asked, breaking the silence.
âDonât be nervous; take a sip of your coffee first.â Ethan took a sip from his own cup after speaking.
He looked quite relaxed, as if he had no pressing matters to attend to.
Thalassa let her guard down momentarily, taking a sip of her coffee. She savored the taste, then smiled, saying, âThis is really good. I didnât expect you to be so skilled at making coffee.â
âRight? I think itâs not bad either.â Ethan put down his cup and said, âFrom now on, youâll be the only one in the secretarial office. Youâll have a lot of work to do. Iâll handle the small tasks like making coffee myself. Of course, with the increase in your workload, your salary will naturally increase as well.â
Thalassaâs eyes widened in surprise. âJust me? What about Betty?â
âSheâs been transferred to our Afriland branch, so she wonât be back for a while.â Ethan explained, âShe loves traveling for work, so I thought Iâd grant her wish and let her do it for a while longer.â
Transferred to Afriland?
Thalassa blinked in surprise. Was this Ethanâs idea, or Lysanderâs doing?
Yesterday, Betty had taken her necklace and today, she was transferred. The two events had to be related.
Without asking, she knew this was Lysanderâs doing.
âMr. Ethan, have you considered hiring another secretary?â Thalassa asked. Ethanâs secretarial office used to have three secretaries.
Now it was just her.
And she was frequently late.
Not that she wanted to be late, it was just that Lysander was so energetic in bed.
She couldnât manage to wake up on time.
âThat wonât be necessary. Iâve seen what youâre capable of. You played a big part in the two contracts with the Sinclair Group, didnât you?* Ethan picked up his coffee cup, taking another sip.
Uhâ¦
Mention of the two collaborations with the Sinclair Group left Thalassa at a loss for words.
She had a feeling that Ethan was hinting at something, yet she couldnât respond.
Her relationship with Lysander was being exploited by Ethan.
âThereâs another task I need you to handle today,â Ethan said, finally getting to the point.
Thalassa asked, âWhat task?â
âYesterday, there was an explosion at the mall, resulting in two deaths and three injuries. The police have identified the cause of the explosion as a faulty phone produced by Leossa Electronics. Since weâre partnered with Leossa Electronics, weâre partly responsible. The contract states that if thereâs a problem with the product, the Sinclair Group, which Leossa Electronics is a part of, has to take responsibility. Now, we need to negotiate a solution with the Sinclair Group,â Ethan said seriously.
Thalassa listened attentively with a heavy feeling in her heart.
She had been at the scene when the explosion occurred yesterday and was well aware of the gravity of the situation.
She hadnât expected that both the Crawley Group and the Sinclair Group would be involved.
âToday, youâll accompany me to negotiate with the Sinclair Group.â Ethan added.
âOkay, Mr. Ethan,â Thalassa responded.
