Thalassa turned to see Jason; his meaningful and lingering gaze had been unnerving her all along.
But she had refrained from voicing her discomfort.
Itâs not her fault or anyone elseâs fault that people found her attractive.
However, she didnât feel entitled to pursue love now. She was fearful of leading someone on.
Thalassa calmly declined, âThanks, but Iâll call my own cab. Itâs more convenient that way.â
âItâs okay. Iâm going your way,â Jason quickly replied.
He insisted it was on his way despite not knowing where she lived.
Thalassa wanted to quash his hopes, so she spoke frankly, âJason, stop pursuing me. Itâs not going to happen. There are plenty of wonderful ladies at the office, so stop wasting your time on me.â
She only wanted what was best for him. If he was bent on pursuing her, heâd be wasting his own time.
That would perhaps even cause him disaster.
Jasonâs friendly demeanor faded and it was replaced by a slightly harsh look.
You want to be with Mr. Ethan? Do you really think thatâs possible? Itâs okay to be ambitious, but you have to know your place.â
Thalassa was taken aback. She had been worried about wasting his precious time and kindly suggested he not waste it on her. And he ended up looking down on her, assuming she was only suitable to be with someone like him, a junior procurement officer.. Noâ¦maybe he thought that being with him would be a step up for her!
Thalassa laughed in disbelief, âI know my place very well, and itâs not in your car. Please leave.â
She turned and walked away, not wanting to engage in further pointless conversation.
Jasonâs car followed her slowly. He leaned out the window and tried to persuade her, âMy parents have a retirement fund, I have a steady job and Iâm an only child. You wouldnât have to work or worry about finances after marrying me. You can just stay home and take care of our kids. What more do you want?
I donât get it. Mr. Ethan may be desirable, but how many women have actually managed to be with him? Women like you, with high standards and big ambitions, fail to see their own status!â
Thalassa found this amusing. She had only the man met a few times, yet he was audacious and gas lighting her!
Thalassa stopped abruptly and cast him a fierce look, âIf youâre so proud of being an only child, then stay that way. We women are not worthy of someone with a royal inheritance like yours! Enjoy your parentsâ retirement fund and grow old alone!â
What an ass!
It would be a wonder if this man ever had a girlfriend.
Jasonâs face darkened. He parked the car, got out, and grabbed Thalassaâs wrist, âGet in the car!â
His grip was strong as if he could force her into his car and win her over.
âLet go of me!â Thalassa struggled, shocked at his sudden rage.
Just as she was about to be dragged into his car, a black vehicle zoomed past, striking Jasonâs Volkswagen on the side.
The impact sent the car shaking, and Jason, who was near the car, froze in shock.
Thalassa stood there wide-eyed.
The front of the Volkswagen was crushed, while the black car, a Rolls-Royce, was unscathed!
Thalassa saw the Rolls-Royce and felt a surge of mixed emotions.
The car door opened and a polished black shoe stepped onto the road, followed by a pristine black suit. A cold, intimidating aura filled the space, as chilling as if it came from the underworld.
Thalassa saw the man. Her heart pounded wildly as she murmured, âYouâre hereâ¦â
Lysander stepped forward; his eyes fixed on Jasonâs grip on Thalassaâs hand.
His gaze was sharp as a blade; then he jerked Jasonâs hand away and twisted it back.
A crunching sound signaled a broken wrist.
âAh!â Jason screamed in pain.
