Lysander didnât say a word on the other end.
His intimidating aura seeped through the phone.
A sense of anxiety held Thalassaâs breath for a moment; her heart was pounding in anticipation of his response.
She feared he might accuse her of overstepping her bounds.
âHmm.â After an eternity, a monosyllable rumbled from Lysanderâs deep voice.
Thalassa instantly relaxed. She said excitedly, âGreat, then you go ahead. I wonât bother you anymore.â
Thalassa quickly hung up before Lysander could respond, afraid he might change his mind.
Lysander lowered the now silent phone; his brows furrowed in annoyance.
Did she just hang up on him?
Maybe he was too soft on her?
Thalassa hadnât gone anywhere but to stay home with the kids and Evelyn for those days.
While the six of them were laughing and having joyous moments, the atmosphere was reminiscent of their old times.
When Monday came around, the kids had to return to school. Evelyn was visibly upset, her entire demeanor radiating an aura of reluctance to part with the kids.
The joy of these past few days had turned into a reluctance to see the kids off to school.
She didnât know when sheâd see them next, unlike in the past when she could pick them up from school daily.
A common folk like her dared not challenge the influence of the Sinclair family.
Despite her reluctance, she had to send the kids off to school.
The kids, oblivious to the adult worries, cheerfully waved goodbye to Evelyn and Thalassa before bounding into the school building. Watching the children disappear into the building, Evelyn sighed, âYouâre right, the kids are growing up. They canât always stay by our side.â âAs long as they love us, thatâs enough,â Thalassa replied wistfully.
âHave you told Lysander yet?â Evelyn suddenly asked.
âTold him what?â Thalassa was taken aback.
âThat youâre not Bruceâs daughter. He has no reason not to marry you then,â Evelyn said, looking expectantly at Thalassa.
In the past, she had her reservations about revealing that Thalassa wasnât Bruceâs daughter because she still harbored hopes for Bruce.
But now, her heart was completely broken. She never imagined that the wealthy woman Bruce courted years ago was Lysanderâs mother. Bruce had even deceived her into eloping with him, which caused the tragedy of Lysanderâs parents.
Lysander must harbor hatred for Bruce, and even more so for Bruceâs kid.
Unable to meet Evelynâs intense gaze, Thalassa looked away, saying, âHe has a potential marriage alliance for his family. He can never marry me.â
âWhat?â Evelyn was stunned; her heart ached. She knew they were beneath the Sinclair family, but now they had gone so far.
Then you should leave him as soon as possible! Youâre still young and you can find someone else to marry, Evelyn urged.
âIâm trying. Iâll leave him, Thalassa evaded, not wanting to continue the conversation.
The reality was harsh and she couldnât control her own fate.
âMom, I need to go to work. Can you take a cab home by yourself?â Thalassa asked.
âIâll wander around and look for a potential job, Evelyn responded.
âOkay, remember to call me if anything happens, Thalassa instructed as she hailed a taxi and was about to leave.
In the secretarial department at the Crawley Electronics,.
Betty wheeled her chair over to Thalassa, asking, âHas your friend returned from his business trip?â
Heâs back. Thalassa nodded.
