Hertha spotted him and instantly became anxious. Her grip tightened around her own arm as she lowered her voice to apologize. âIâm sorry. I didnât know Lysander was here.â
Thalassa could clearly sense her fear, and she tried to reassure her with a gentle smile. âItâs okay; donât be scared. Weâre not here for him.â
Hertha managed to squeeze out a small smile. âAs long as youâre not scared, Iâm not either.â
Her gaze then landed on Alaric lounging under the umbrella, who was casually sipping on his drink. He was dressed in a casual white ensemble, and his roguishly attractive face was partly obscured by the shadow of the umbrella, yet it couldnât hide the twinkling allure in his eyes.
He was naturally charming and seductive. Merely looking at him made Herthaâs heart flutter.
Witnessing such an attractive man was really a treat for the eyes.
Hertha, with Thalassa in tow, walked straight over to where Alaric was sitting. At the table meant for four, Alaric was seated on the right. Hertha directly took the seat next to him, while Thalassa sat next to Hertha and across from Alaric.
Unsatisfied with the distance, Hertha moved her chair closer to Alaric and greeted him with a lively smile. âHello, Mr. Falconer. Fancy meeting you here.â
Alaric shifted his gaze from watching Lysanderâs game, gave her a quick, deep look, and then glanced at Thalassa. He turned his head back to Hertha and smirked as he asked, âYouâre the one who claimed to be my girlfriend?â
You let me in without even knowing who I was?â Hertha pouted, feeling offended.
It seemed that Alaric had many girlfriends, so he wasnât surprised when someone claimed to be his girlfriend. He even invited them in.
So, it didnât matter who it was, right?
âI wanted to see who was brazen enough to claim to be my girlfriend. And the person who showed up didnât disappoint.â Alaric put down his drink. His eyes twinkled with mischief as he looked at her.
Hertha felt her heart racing, and she struggled to control her breath. âI donât know who was quick to claim me as his woman when that tacky flirt was around. Since someone was willing to announce it like that, Iâm more than happy to introduce myself as such.â
Thalassa decided to stay out of their playful banter. She picked up a bottle of mineral water from the table, ready to have a drink. Just then, a tall figure approached. His imposing presence filled the entire space. Thalassa found herself enveloped in his shadow.
She paused as her eyes met Lysanderâs captivating gaze. She gave him an awkward smile, asking, âThirsty?â
Lysander reached out and took the bottle from her. He sat down in another empty seat and started drinking.
As he swallowed, beads of sweat trickled down his neck. He radiated a strong masculine aura, making him look incredibly attractive.
Thalassaâs heartbeat quickened. She quickly looked away and grabbed another bottle of water to calm her nerves.
Strangely enough, she couldnât open the cap this time. While she was struggling, the bottle was taken from her. She looked up to see Lysander. unscrewing the cap with ease, then handing the bottle back to her.
Thalassa hurriedly took it, stammering, âThankâ¦youâ¦â
She stopped herself mid-sentence, remembering that Lysander hated it when she said thank you.
The verbal sparring between Alaric and Hertha continued. They even dragged Thalassa and Lysander into the fray..
âIf Thalassa claimed to be Lysanderâs girlfriend to get in, that would be within reason. But you and I, weâre hardly even acquaintances.â Alaric continued, his wit as sharp as ever.
