There was only one umbrella. Ethan held it up, Thalassa walked in the middle, and Leopold huddled close to her, pressing in to avoid the rain.
Since Thalassa and Leopold walked shoulder-to-shoulder, their bodies brushed against each other.
Thalassaâs breath hitched, and her gaze involuntarily slid to the side, meeting Leopoldâs hopeful yet depressed eyes. She felt a chill run down her spine, and her heart stuttered.
She quickly averted her gaze. She was too scared to look again.
âWhat did you see?â Leopoldâs voice was as smooth as velvet. Creating a melancholic sweetness in the damp, rainy air.
âI didnât see anything.â Thalassa replied quietly, still looking straight ahead.
âLeopold, come over here. I have an extra umbrella. Itâs ridiculous for all three of us to be crammed under one.â Zephyr came over and handed Leopold an umbrella as his hawk-like gaze sternly scrutinized Thalassa.
The look he gave her was filled with hostility, making Thalassaâs heart skip and jump in fear. She understood that Zephyr wasnât fond of her.
She didnât say anything and just continued walking with Ethan.
Leopold reluctantly took the umbrella from Zephyr and watched Thalassa walk away with a lost and saddened expression on his face.
The rain was falling lightly, wetting his thick eyebrows. The raindrops slid down his lashes, finally landing in his eyes and sliding down his cheeks, making it hard to tell where the tears began and the rain ended.
Ethan led Thalassa to his car and opened the door for her. Just as she was about to get in, a hand suddenly pressed against the door, closing it and blocking her from entering.
As she looked up in surprise, Thalassa saw Lysanderâs icy expression, and her breath involuntarily hitched.
âMy car is over there. Get in.â Lysanderâs voice was low and brooding, leaving her no room for discussion.
There were many people attending the funeral who hadnât left yet, and many eyes were watching them from the parking lot. Thalassa didnât want to get into his car.
âI have to get back to work. Ethanâs car is more convenient.â Thalassa explained.
Lysanderâs gaze shifted to Ethan..
âI have business to attend to. I canât take you. Ride with Lysander.â Ethan quickly got into his car and drove off.
Thalassa was left speechless.
What a jerk! Was this how a good boss treated his employees?
Thalassa watched Ethanâs car disappear in frustration. She was finding him more and more annoying by the day. She turned around, only to meet Lysanderâs deep, brooding gaze.
His presence was overwhelming.
Feeling her breath quicken, she had no choice but to quietly head towards Lysanderâs car.
As she got in, Lysander climbed in next to her. The backseat area of the car felt even more confined.
Thalassa shifted to the side unconsciously, trying to put some distance between them.
Lysanderâs gaze was intense, and the partition in the car came down, separating the front and back seats.
A wave of panic washed over Thalassa.
âIâm worried thereâs not enough room.â She said weakly.
âIs my butt that big?â Lysander retorted, his voice deep and magnetic.
This was an unexpectedly funny comment from him that carried an inexplicable force. Thalassa felt like laughing but couldnât.
âNo, itâs not that. My butt is big and takes up a lot of space.â Thalassa quickly corrected herself, not wanting him to think she was judging him.
