She didnât dare look back.
It was only her and Lysander in the office. Who else could have pressed the button and opened the door?
Once she stepped out of the office, the glass door closed behind her.
She glanced back instinctively, but was met with her sheer reflection from the glass door. She couldnât see anything inside.
So, it was a one-way glass. From inside, one could see the outside, but from outside, nothing could be seen inside.
No wonder Lysander wasnât bothered about being seen. She was worried about nothing.
Still despite the false alarm, Thalassa didnât dare linger and briskly walked away.
A little while after Thalassa had left, David arrived. He rang the doorbell, and the door was promptly opened.
Upon entering and finding no trace of Thalassa, he looked slightly puzzled but didnât ask any questions.
âMr. Sinclair, we just received word from Captain Payne. Theyâve lifted fingerprints from Sybilâs clothing and compared them with Evelynâs. They donât match.â He reported while standing by Lysanderâs desk.
In other words, Evelyn never touched Grandma Sybil, let alone pushed her.
Lysander lifted his gaze from the documents in front of him and looked at David as he responded with a low âMm-hmm.â
David nodded, then exited the office.
Thalassa took a cab back to the Crawley Group, first returning to the secretaryâs office.
As soon as she arrived, Betty couldnât wait to ask her about how her mission went. âHow did it go? Did you complete the task?â
Thalassa shook her head.
Betty patted her shoulder. âDonât lose hope. Try a few more times; you might just succeed.â
Thalassa was startled.
She had barely made it out alive from her first visit. How could she muster the strength to try a few more times?
It was supposed to be a suicide mission.
âHey, what happened to your lips? They look swollen. Itâs like someone bit you.â Bettyâs curiosity piqued as her gaze fell on Thalassaâs swollen lips.
Thalassa, alarmed, instinctively touched her burning lips and quickly thought of a plausible explanation.
âThe lunch I had was too spicy. It made my lips swell.â
It was all Lysanderâs fault. Why did he have to be so rough?
If she hadnât fought back, her tongue might have been bitten off.
It was truly a terrifying experience. Just the thought of it made her shudder.
âThen you should avoid spicy food in the future. Donât torture yourself.â Betty kindly advised her.
âYeah, I willâ
Just then, the phone in the office rang, so Betty promptly answered it. âAlright, Iâll let her know.â
After hanging up, Betty turned to Thalassa. âMr. Ethan is asking for you in his office.â
âOkay.â Thalassa rose to her feet.
âWait.â Betty stopped her, gesturing towards a file on the desk. âBring the contract with you. Mr. Ethan probably wants to discuss the contract signing.â
Thalassa took a deep breath as she picked up the file. âIâll report back.â
âExplain everything clearly to Mr. Ethan. Heâs a reasonable man,â Betty kindly advised her again.
âThanks, Betty.â
Thalassa, contract in hand, made her way to Ethanâs office. âMr. Ethan, you wanted to see me?â
Ethan had just finished signing a contract. He put down his pen and looked up at Thalassa. âHow did it go? What did Lysander say?â
Thalassa apologized. âMr. Ethan, I lack the authority and influence to make a difference with Mr.
Sinclairâs. Iâm sorry I couldnât complete the task.â
âYou lack authority and influence? Thatâs impossible.â Ethan was surprised. âLet me see the contract.â
