Thalassa took the elevator all the way up to the top floor of the towering skyscraper.
The elevator doors slid open to reveal David waiting at the entrance.
Thalassa was taken aback. âDavid, where are you off to?â
Maintaining a professional smile, David answered, âTo greet you.â
Thalassa instantly understood. It was a tradition at the Sinclair Corporation that whenever a guest of Mr. Sinclair was expected, the secretary would wait by the elevator to welcome them. This was a task that she used to perform.
But now, it was Davidâs responsibility.
It felt out of place for David, who was an experienced executive assistant, to be tasked with such a small duty. It felt like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
Having David greet her made Thalassa feel somewhat embarrassed. âDavid, why donât you guys hire a secretary?â
âMr. Sinclair hasnât issued a hiring notice.â David replied..
âSo, no more secretaries?â
âIt seems so.â
âBut why?â
Before he could answer, they arrived at the entrance of the CEOâs office. David politely gestured for Thalassa to stand in the center of the doorway. He then knocked on the door and announced her arrival. âMr. Sinclair, a representative from the Crawley Group is here.â
âAlright.â Lysanderâs deep and resonant voice echoed from within his office.
David nodded at Thalassa. âMs. Everhart, you may go in.â
He then left, leaving Thalassa and Lysander alone in the vast office.
Even with the distance between them, Thalassa could feel the intimidating aura emanating from Lysander. She took a deep breath and slowly made her way in.
Lysander sat at his desk as his tall figure cast a long shadow on his surroundings. He was engrossed in some documents, so he didnât even glance up as she approached.
The closer Thalassa got, the harder it became for her to breathe. She cautiously made her way to the desk and began nervously speaking, âMr. Sinclair, this is the proposal the Crawley Group wishes to present to you.â
She carefully placed the documents on the desk, keeping her head bowed, so as to cower away from his gaze. She stole a quick glance at him before quickly looking away. Her fear from their previous encounter was still fresh in her mind.
Thalassa was so nervous that she could barely speak coherently.
Lysander continued to focus on his documents, not sparing her a single glance. It was as if she were invisible to him.
Thalassa stood by the desk, waiting. Each passing second felt like an eternity, increasing her anxiety to sky-high levels. Even though Lysander didnât say a word or look at her, she felt an overwhelming pressure that made her scalp tingle.
She couldnât take it anymore. Her palms were getting sweaty.
âMr. Sinclair, if youâre busy right now, we could scheduleâ¦â
âPick up the proposal and read it to me.â Lysander interrupted her with his deep voice.
Thalassa was taken aback. She quickly picked up the proposal and started reading from the first page.
When she finished, she glanced at Lysander. She met his alluring, deep-set eyes and felt a wave of pressure that seemed to strike at her heart. She stuttered, âMr. Sinclair, do you see any issues?â
âTwenty thousand phones⦠Was it Leopoldâs decision?â Lysanderâs penetrating gaze bore into her. His sharp eyes were as cold and piercing as a hawkâs.
