Thalassa shook her head helplessly, raising her voice, âDreaming wonât get you anywhere. Itâs not reality! You need to get up and start earning your keep. Focus on getting Alaric into your bed. Thatâs being practical.â
Hertha, roused by the noise, mumbled, âJust let me dream. Let me get my thrill.â
âDreaming about him wonât get you pregnant. Alaric is too good-looking. Donât you want to have his baby?â Thalassa played her trump card, her unique wake-up service.
Upon hearing this, Hertha sat up, her eyes wide open, charged with energy. She raised her fists in determination, âFight for it. Chase my dream guy. Have his baby, and raise a little dream guy! Letâs go, go, go!â
Thalassa cheered her on, âGo, go, go!â
The two women scrambled from the bed and rushed into the bathroom to brush their teeth, wash their faces, and comb their hair as quickly as possible.
Luckily, both of them had good skin, so they could get by without makeup.
If they had to put makeup on, that would delay them another hour.
Hastily finishing up, they rushed out the door. Thalassa was about to call a cab when Hertha offered, âDonât bother with a cab. Iâll drive you to work.â
âBut itâs out of your way. Youâll be late,â Thalassa didnât want to inconvenience Hertha.
âIâm okay as long as I make it in time for lunch. Youâre different. You have a meeting at ten. Donât you want to keep your job?â
Herthaâs job was relatively relaxed. She had almost nothing to do in the morning, as long as she clocked in successfully.
âAlright, once Iâve sorted out my troubles, Iâll treat you to a meal,â Thalassa agreed as she got into the car.
âThatâs a must. Weâll have barbecue and beer,â Hertha declared.
Thalassa raced against time, arriving at her office at 9:55. She dashed towards the secretaryâs office.
When entering, she found Ethan sitting at her desk, acting every bit the boss.
Betty was standing not far from him, looking glum as if she was being reprimanded.
Seeing this, Thalassa suppressed her panting and smiled awkwardly. âMr. Ethan.â
Ethan glanced at her, raised his wrist to check the time and said, âYouâre an hour late, so half a dayâs pay will be deducted. Any objections?â
Thalassa quickly shook her head, âNone.â
The office rules stated that lateness meant a deduction in pay. Ethan was fair to everyone, which was good.
It would prevent Betty from suspecting any improper relations between her and Ethan.
âBe more careful next time.â Ethan said before standing up and leaving the office..
Once Ethan was gone, Thalassa relaxed and let out a breath.
Betty warned her sternly, âQuickly prepare your things and head to the meeting room. Donât be late next time. I got a lecture because of you.â
Thalassa was confused, âWhy were you lectured?â.
Betty explained, âMr. Ethan said that as the secretary department manager, Iâm responsible for my subordinates. If anyone makes a mistake, I share the responsibility.â Despite her stern expression, Thalassa could tell that Betty was struggling to hide her delight.
Thalassa quickly congratulated her, âCongratulations on your promotion, Betty.â
Even though there were only two of them in the office, Bettyâs promotion meant that she was now Thalassaâs superior.
Thalassa genuinely congratulated Betty.
Betty was highly capable and diligent, and being in her thirties, if she had remained stuck in her position with no future prospects, she would have been very anxious.
Now that she had been promoted, it would at least bring some hope into her life.
âYou always know the right thing to say. Now hurry up.â Betty couldnât help but smile for a moment before quickly putting on her stern face again.
âSure.â Thalassa quickly gathered her files and followed Betty to the meeting room.
The meeting was led by Ethan, discussing the deal to deliver 20,000 phones to Leopold in a week.
