J Thalassa was startled, her entire body colliding with the manâs chest.
His chest was firm, brimming with raw masculine power. Her eyes, wide and panicked, met his stern, icy gaze.
His face was rugged, his skin tanned, radiating a strong masculine allure.
Thalassaâs heart stuttered and she quickly apologized, âIâm sorry, Captain Payne, I didnât mean to.â
Thalassa apologized to Payne, trying to pull away and exit his embrace.
Suddenly, a surge of overwhelming presence flooded in, the air vibrating with disruption.
Thalassaâs heart skipped a beat, and in the next second, her wrist was seized, with a swift tug, she was pulled out of Payneâs arms.
Facing Lysanderâs deep and cold eyes, Thalassa caught her breath, her body stiffening, her legs feeling numb as if they werenât her own. Lysanderâs handsome face darkened, his voice cold as ice.
âWhat were you doing just now?â
His eyes followed down her face and saw her dress. His gaze was cold and dark with annoyance.
She was wearing a low-cut evening dress. One could see a glimpse of her curves if they leaned in too close.
And she had just thrown herself into Payneâs arms!
Thalassa panicked, wanting to explain.
Payne said, his tone casual and nonchalant, âThis lady is quite interesting, trying to pique my interest in a case. Youâre interrupting at a rather unfortunate time, Lysander.â
He smiled, and his stern eyes were filled with an ambiguous glint, watching Lysander unblinkingly.
His words made Thalassa more nervous. They were full of ambiguity and could easily lead to misunderstandings.
âNo, I was just going to have a drink with Captain Payneâ¦â
Thalassaâs words were cut short by Lysanderâs oppressive gaze. He asked, âIs that so? First step a drink, whatâs the next step?â
His handsome face looked cold. He gritted his teeth as he finished his words, and let go of Thalassaâs wrist.
His deep eyes were filled with resentment and anger.
âI didnât think about a next step. I just wanted to convince Captain Payne to take a caseâ¦â Thalassa hurriedly explained. Lysanderâs icy and intimidating aura was making her breathing heavy.
She wasnât sure why she felt the need to explain, but she had a gut feeling that if Lysander was angry, she would face consequences.
âDonât be a nuisance here!â Lysander spoke coldly, acting icy and aloof Thalassa was stunned. Seeing the disdain in his deep eyes, her heart ached involuntarily.
She realized that all her explanations were futile in front of Lysander.
And she suddenly realized why explain? Lysander had already pushed her out of his life. He didnât want to see her anymore.
Who she was with and who she was intimate with, seemed to have nothing to do with him.
Thalassaâs face paled, her eyes lowered, and she quietly stepped back and disappeared from Lysanderâs sight, not to bother him anymore.
âLysander, do you know this woman?â Payne asked casually, looking at Lysander.
âNot worth mentioning.â Lysanderâs voice was cold and low, clearly not wanting to discuss Thalassa, Payne, however, ignored his dismissive attitude. âIf you hadnât shown up today, I might have gotten lucky. You have really bad timing.â
