Lysanderâs mind was set, and there was no way she could sway him. Staying would have only inflicted more pain on Sophia.
If she had left, Lysander would have at least comforted Sophia.
If she had stayed, Lysander would have only been more cold-hearted.
Thalassa choked back her tears, âIâll leave immediately. Please take care of Sophia. Donât be harsh.â
She looked at the timid Sophia one last time, her heart aching. With a heavy heart, she walked away.
In the yard, the other three children were nowhere to be seen. They had been taken by the housekeepers to play further afield, enjoying a lively game of soccer, oblivious to the happenings back at home.
Thalassa quickly got into the car, fearing the kids would see her departure and chase after her, causing her more pain.
If forcibly separated, the children would cry out until they were hoarse.
She didnât want to see the children in tears. Leaving quietly while they were happily playing seemed the best option.
The car pulled away from the Sinclairâs house.
Inside the house, Sophia, cradled in Lysanderâs arms, watched as Thalassa left. She bit her lower lip as tears welled up, her shoulders shaking from crying. She was too scared to call out for her mother, too scared even to say she needed her.
For her, being held by someone she found terrifying, she didnât dare to move.
Lysander handed her a tissue, wiping away her tears, âNo more crying. Iâll take you to pick some antiques. Take as many as you want.â
Sophia continued to sob. Even the mention of her favorite antiques couldnât console her.
She yearned for her mother, but her mother had left.
Inside the car, Thalassa wiped away her tears, the memory of Sophiaâs frightened and timid face causing her heart to wrench.
Could she see her children in the future?
Lysanderâs firm attitude suggested she wouldnât be allowed to see her children again.
Why didnât Lysander and Zephyr believe her about Grandma Sybilâs accident? Why didnât they believe Sophia?
Why did Robert lie?
Although Thalassa now understood what had happened, Zephyr didnât want the police to check fingerprints on Grandma Sybil. Everyone thought Sophiaâs words were just childrenâs talk and they were not worth taking seriouslyâ¦
Were they accusing Evelyn of killing Grandma Sybil and planning on blaming Evelyn?
Thalassa felt bewildered, unsure of what to do next.
Upon returning to Vibrant Oasis Residences, she saw a woman standing at the entrance. Thalassa paused for a moment. âThalassa, youâre finally back. Iâve been waiting for you for an hour.â The woman walked up, warmly taking Thalassaâs arm.
Thalassa finally recognized her, âHertha?â
âOf course, itâs me. How come you donât recognize me, your best friend?â Hertha feigned annoyance.
Thalassa looked at her, puzzled, âHow did you lose so much weight?â
It was only over a week since they had previously met, but Hertha had lost a significant amount of weight. Her cheeks were no longer plump, and her waist was slender.
Hertha giggled, âAlaric said he doesnât like plump women. I spent over a week at a weight loss camp.
Not too bad, right?â
Hertha twirled, showing off her new figure.
âYou lost weight too quickly,â Thalassa commented.
âMy willpower is strong. Anyway, come with me to the Starhaven Hotel tonight. I heard Alaric will be at an event there. I want to surprise him.â Hertha said, beaming.
