Thalassa shot another incredulous look at Lysander, her eyes glistening with tears.
Lysander had always been harsh with her in the past, using her as an outlet for his frustrations.
But now, his every word was in her defense.
He made her feel less alone in her isolation.
She was grateful to him.
âAll right, old man, donât be mad, and donât blame Lysander. Heâs always been a bachelor, not settling down and not having kids, which had us all on pins and needles. However, we now have four great-
grandchildren at once, both boys and girls. We should be celebrating.â Sybil comforted Zephyr, her hand gently stroking his, a smile on her face.
She was overjoyed to know that Lysander had four children.
She had thought that she would never get to hold her great-grandchildren in her lifetime. After all, she was getting on in years, and her health wasnât the best.
Who knew when she might breathe her last?
But now, her great-grandchildren were already so big.
A huge weight lifted off Sybilâs heart.
How could she have been angry when she should have been overjoyed?
Zephyr took a deep breath and looked at Sybil. Seeing her radiant smile, he swallowed his anger and decided not to pursue the matter further.
To Faye, who was standing, he said, âFaye, sit down. Dinner is being prepared in the kitchen. Stay and join us for dinner.â
Faye glanced at Lysander. His large hand was holding Thalassaâs, his handsome face cold and aloof.
From the moment he walked in, he hadnât even looked at her once.
She felt a mix of resentment and sadness.
She had been by Lysanderâs side for ten years, silently loving him, but her decade-long devotion couldnât compare to the single night Thalassa had spent with him.
Her deep-seated love for Lysander, etched into her very blood, wasnât something she could have just let go of.
Despite knowing Zephyr was just being courteous, she replied, âAll right,â thanked him in a polite manner, and had a suitable smile on her face.
âGood, have a seat and have some tea first,â Zephyrâs attitude towards Faye was a stark contrast to his attitude towards Thalassa. Towards Faye, he was polite and formal.
Thalassa, feeling somewhat awkward, stood by Lysanderâs side, her head slightly bowed. If Lysander didnât move, she wouldnât either.
It seemed as if Lysander was her strong shield at that moment. As long as she was by his side, she had nothing to worry about.
The room fell into an oppressive silence.
Soon, the sound of childrenâs laughter broke the silence.
Books were tossed out of a room upstairs, followed by a childâs laughter. âHaha! Come and chase me!
Come and hit me!â
Dorian sprang out of the room, his tiny body both adorable and mischievous.
Elowen, chubby hand clutching a few books, huffed and puffed as she chased after Dorian, tossing the books in her arms towards him. She scrunched up her brows, looking adorably fierce.
âBig bad wolf, stop. Iâll get you,â she threatened, her soft voice lacking any real menace.
The children were playing.
Dorian was pretending to be the big bad wolf, and Elowen was the hunter.
Then Sophia rolled out from the room, her tiny body bumping into Elowenâs short legs. Elowen lost her balance and fell forward.
âElowen, Sophia!â Atticus rushed over to help them up.
The childrenâs lively voices and adorable antics snapped Thalassa out of her thoughts. She lifted her gaze towards the second floor, where the four little ones were playing.
All her worries melted away, replaced by a soft warmth in her heart.
