Thalassa felt her heart sink in disappointment. Although she was anxious and upset, she didnât want her mother to worry so she reassured her, âItâs nothing. I was just asking. All right, Iâve got to go.â
Thalassa was burning with impatience. She hadnât even gotten the chance to ask why Evelyn was in the hospital.
After hanging up, she immediately called Hertha, only to find out that she also hadnât picked up the kids.
Thalassaâs heart was wracked with worry, her breath was heavy, and she felt like she was suffocating.
If no one had picked up the kids, where could they have been?
Going from hope to despair, Thalassa was so scared that her temples were throbbing.
She sat in the cab, feeling helpless.
She was so anxious that she was on the verge of tears. But then, she suddenly thought of someone.
Her fingers trembled slightly as she scrolled through her call history on her phone. She was looking for Fitchâs number. He had called her once before.
Thankfully, she hadnât made many calls recently, so she found Fitchâs number quickly.
Thalassa dialed his number.
With each ring, her heartbeat quickened.
After about ten seconds, the call was picked up.
Without waiting for the other person to speak, Thalassa blurted out, âFitch, are the kids at Royal Estates?â
âNo,â Fitch answered.
That one word felt like it had hollowed out Thalassaâs heart. Her face drained of color, and all her hopes were crushed.
She was on the verge of breaking down.
Then Fitch added, âWhen I went to pick up the kids this afternoon, the teacher said someone had already taken them. I notified Lysander. Heâs on his way to look for them now.â
Thalassa took in a shaky breath, swallowing back her fear, and asked, âWhere is Lysander going to look?â
âThe Sinclairâs mansion. Apparently, Zephyr picked them up.â Fitch didnât hide anything. He told Thalassa everything.
At the mention of Zephyr, Thalassa felt her heart drop back into place. The kids werenât in danger.
Zephyr had just picked them up.
She didnât have to worry about their safety anymore.
But Thalassa was still uneasy.
She thanked Fitch and gave the cab driver the address.
She had been to the Sinclairâs mansion before and knew where it was. She wanted to see for herself to make sure. She wouldnât have been at ease until she did.
Zephyr had picked up the kids without saying a word to her or Lysander.
That made her nervous, What was Zephyr planning?
The cab stopped halfway up the hill to the Sinclair mansion.
Confused, Thalassa asked, âSir, why are we stopping?â
The driver turned around and explained, âThis is a private estate, and thereâs a checkpoint up ahead.
Outsiders arenât allowed in. Youâd better get off here and walk.â.
Thalassa looked out the window and saw a checkpoint not far away.
She had walked past that checkpoint before when she was coming down from the hill. It was easy to bypass the barrier on foot, but cars couldnât get in.
âAll right, thank you, sir.â Thalassa paid the fare and got out of the cab.
She started walking up the hill. As she approached the checkpoint, a security guard came out and stopped her. âSorry, but you canât just walk in here.â
Thalassa tried to explain, âI know the owner. I really need to get in.â
âPlease leave. The guard was firm. Their job was to keep outsiders out.
Just as Thalassa was wondering what to do, she saw a black Rolls-Royce approaching in the distance.
