âGo ahead. Iâm spent. Need to sleep, Thalassa said, turning her face away, refusing to meet his gaze.
She assumed her cold demeanor would have angered him, but to her surprise, he simply turned and left.
With his icy presence gone, Thalassa let out a small sigh of relief.
Her eyes drifted towards the bank card on the bedside table. She wondered if Lysander had drained it dry.
Regardless, she decided she no longer wanted it.
Thalassa felt drained, as though every bit of her energy had been sapped.
As she was about to fall asleep, the door opened. Before anyone entered, the joyous voices of children filled the room.
âMommy!â
The innocent voices of the four little ones echoed around the room, tugging at Thalassaâs heartstrings.
Her eyes snapped open, and she looked towards the door.
Four adorable little faces were running towards her, swinging their tiny legs.
Their waddling reminded her of little penguins, and they were incredibly cute.
Thalassaâs spirits lifted instantly as if she had found some energy within herself She propped herself up, a gentle smile appearing on her face. âAtticus, Dorian, Elowen, Sophiaâ¦â
âMommy!â
âMommy, why is your voice so soft?â Dorian asked.
The children gathered by her bed, their chubby hands clutching the bed sheets, their little heads tilted, eyes filled with wonder and love..
Thalassa felt a wave of warmth wash over her. Even her heart, riddled with holes, seemed to be healing, filled with energy.
âItâs nothing. My throatâs just a little sore,â Thalassa explained. She reached out, caressing each of their soft, round faces.
âHave you all eaten yet?â Thalassa asked, her voice filled with concern.
âYep, all done.â Atticus nodded.
âWe ate, but did you eat, Mommy?â Dorian asked, his eyes sparkling with concern.
âI have eaten, too,â Thalassa replied.
âDid you eat as much as me, Mommy? Look at my belly. Itâs all round like a football!â Elowen bragged, lifting her dress to display her round belly.
Thalassa laughed, patting her belly. âOur Elowen sure did eat a lot. Youâre so cute.â
âMommy is cute too,â Elowen replied, her face lighting up with a radiant smile. Her two little dimples made her even more adorable.
âYes, Mommy is the cutest.â Sophia agreed, clutching her tiny fists.
Thalassa smiled, feeling content and happy.
No matter what difficulties she faced, the sight of her children always lifted her spirits.
Thereâs always hope when thereâs light in your heart.
âMommy, come and play with us,â Elowen pleaded, tugging at Thalassaâs hand.
âAll right, Mommy will play with you.â Thalassa agreed, pushing herself off the bed. Just as she was about to stand, her legs gave way, and she ended up sitting back on the bed.
She had overestimated herself. Her body wasnât up for playtime, despite her eagerness Just then, a commanding presence entered the room.
Lysander had returned.
