âHurry up, I canât hold on any longer!â Evelynâs voice gasped on the phone.
Thalassaâs worry intensified, and she said anxiously, âKeep the line open. I am on my way down!â
Thalassa practically bolted out of the door. They were living in an apartment building without an elevator. As she rushed down the stairs, she missed her step and almost tumbled down.
Luckily, she stumbled a few steps forward and regained her balance.
As soon as she steadied herself, she bolted towards the apartment complexâs exit.
From a distance, she saw Evelyn gripping a manâs shirt. The man was trying to pull away, but Evelyn wouldnât let him. They were locked in a stalemate.
âYou rotten bastard, give me my money back!â Evelyn was red-faced and screaming, still clutching the manâs shirt.
âEvelyn, let go of me! Youâre making a scene!â The man, blushing from embarrassment, retorted.
As Thalassa got closer, she recognized the man Evelyn was arguing with. It was Bruce!
Thalassa wasnât sure what had happened, but seeing that man made her instantly wary and defensive.
Evelyn turned to Thalassa, panting, âHelp me hold him. Donât let him get away! I saw him with the man who scammed me out of three million earlier. They were still scamming others in the complex with their bloody scheme!â
She intended to catch the scammer, but he ran away too quickly, and she could only catch Bruce.
Thalassaâs eyes widened in surprise, understanding why Evelyn was so upset. She stepped forward to help, grabbing hold of Bruceâs shirt, her face stern, âI canât believe you would do something like this!â
That man was genuinely shameless to do such a thing.
âThalassa, itâs not what your mother is saying. Listen to me. Thereâs been a misunderstanding.â Bruceâs face softened as he tried to explain.
Evelyn cursed, cutting him off, âShut up, you liar! Youâve deceived so many women! Thalassa, donât waste your breath on him. Call the/police!â
Thalassa was already holding her phone, ready to dial 911.
She had barely pressed a button when Bruce snatched her phone away in desperation.
Thalassa instinctively tried to grab it back, but Bruce held it high out of her reach.
She took a few steps forward to try and grab it, but that meant she would have had to get close to Bruce, and there would have been physical contact.
She didnât want to have any contact with Bruce, so she stopped, her eyes blazing, âGive me back my phone!â
âYouâve all misunderstood me. Weâre a family, and we donât need to be like this. Letâs sit down and talk calmly. Look at all the people watching this spectacle. Isnât it embarrassing for you?â
Bruce had a plea on his handsome face.
âScrew you! Whoâs family with you? If you talk nonsense again, Iâll tear your mouth apart!â Evelyn sneered, disgusted and angry, âEvelyn, donât you remember how much we loved each other? We donât need to let our child bear our grudges.â Bruce said softly.
He was good-looking, and even though he was older, he still had a masculine charm. When he spoke gently, he was pretty seductive.
Thalassa understood why he was able to harm so many women. He was not only good-looking but also knew how to coax people. Many women wouldnât have been able to resist that sweet-talking charmer.
