âHah, is there anything Iâm afraid of?â Ethan said, laughing as if heâd heard the best joke in the world.
He leaned slightly on the back of a nearby chair, exuding an air of casual confidence.
âIâve got news for you. Youâre hired!â Ethan said, a playful smile tugging at the corner of his mouth as he addressed Thalassa.
Thalassa blinked in surprise, âDonât make this decision out of spite.â
After all, crossing Lysander out of spite wouldnât have been worth it.
Ethanâs expression turned serious, âDo I look like Iâm joking? Why would I act out of spite?â he asked.
He snapped his fingers, and the HR manager who had interviewed Thalassa stepped forward, ready to receive orders.
âGet her on board right away, and make her the departmentâs executive secretary,â Ethan directed.
âOf course, Mr. Ethan,â the HR manager replied, nodding.
Thalassa was taken aback. She hadnât even started her job, and she was already getting a promotion?
She had applied for the position of a secretaryâs assistant, and Ethan had straightaway promoted her to executive secretary!
What was going on? Had Lysander not pressured Ethan but instead convinced him to hire her?
âWhy the surprised look? Youâre not scared, are you?â Ethan asked, raising an eyebrow and grinning.
âScared of what?â Thalassa regained her composure.
âYou know exactly what Iâm talking about,â Ethan said, a mischievous smile on his lips as he watched her with amusement.
Thalassa was puzzled, but after a momentâs thought, she realized that he was probably referring to her fear of Lysander seeking her out.
If Lysander wanted to find her, she could have run to the ends of the earth, and it would have still made no difference.
She had already felt enough fear. All she wanted then was to live a normal life.
Because she knew that if Lysander wanted to cause her trouble, she could never escape him, no matter where she worked.
Working for Ethanâs company wasnât going to be any different from working elsewhere.
As long as the company wanted her, that was all that mattered.
âAs long as youâre not scared, I have nothing to be afraid of. Iâll sign the contract for the executive secretary position right now,â Thalassa responded confidently.
She then followed the HR manager to complete the process.
Ethan watched Thalassa leave, still smiling.
This woman is interesting,â he thought. No wonder even someone like Lysander, who usually kept his distance from women and was as cold as ice, had taken an interest in her.
In Ethanâs eyes, Lysander was just intrigued by her. He felt no love for her. It was just curiosity.
In such a day and age, with so many distractions and temptations, who still believed in love?
Ethan certainly didnât. He didnât believe that love existed in the world.
After Thalassa completed her onboarding process, she went home, ready to start work the next day.
She arrived home in high spirits and told her mother, Evelyn, âMom, I found a job. I start tomorrow.â
Evelyn looked at her daughter, a hint of reproach in her eyes, âYou had a good job at your previous company. Why did you quit?â
Only then did Thalassa remember that Evelyn still thought that she was working at Leossa Tech and didnât know the fact that she had been transferred to the Sipelair Group. Nor did she know that Lysander had fired Thalassa.
But that was all in the past, and there was no need to worry her mother with the details.
