Thalassa looked up at Hertha, her eyes welling up with tears in an instant. Her voice was pitiful and helpless. âHertha, Lysander has taken the kidsâ¦â
âWhat?â Hertha gasped, her eyes wide, âDoes Lysander know theyâre his children?â
Tears rolled down Thalassaâs cheeks as she nodded, âHe knowsâ¦â
âHoly smokes! We hid it so well, how did he find out?â Hertha, aghast, walked into the room and sat down next to Thalassa. She looked at her friend with a mix of curiosity and shock.
Unbelievable. Just yesterday morning, everything was fine. How could the little ones be taken away by Lysander in just a dayâs time?
Thalassa, feeling drained of energy, recounted everything that had happened from yesterday to today for Hertha She didnât know what to do. Maybe having another person know could provide her with some advice.
âSo the problem started with the toy store owner?â Hertha queried, âNormal people wouldnât investigate a store owner. Lysanderâs train of thought isnât something ordinary people can fathom.â
Learning that Lysander had started his investigation from the suspicious lead of the toy store owner, Hertha was filled with disbelief and confusion.
No wonder Thalassa had been so careful, so cautious about hiding the children. So Lysander was really that dangerous.
Now that he knew the children were his, he would really take them away without leaving a single one for Thalassa, not even allowing her to see them again.
Thalassa was cut to the quick.
Swallowing, Thalassa didnât have the energy to comment on Lysanderâs cunning. Her mind was filled with worry for the children.
She had no idea how they were faring in the Royal Estates and whether they had been crying.
âHow much did Lysander offer you to sever the mother-child bond?â Hertha, her mind teeming with gossip and curiosity, wanted to understand everything that had happened in the past day that she hadnât been part of.
Thalassa held up her hand, forming a ten with her fingers.
Hertha guessed, Ten thousand dollars?â
Thalassa shook her head.
âOne million?â
Thalassa still shook her head.
Realizing something, Herthaâs eyes lit up. âDonât tell me itâs a billion.â
Thalassa nodded.
Hertha gasped again. âHoly smokes! Thatâs a lot! Rich people really know how to throw their weight around.â
âDoes it matter that heâs rich? Iâd rather not have his money and have the children back.â She wished she could return the money to Lysander, but she didnât even know his bank account number.
He wouldnât pick up the phone either, refusing to let her talk.
Herthaâs heart thudded wildly, and she found it hard to chill. One wave of shocking gossip after another had left her in a state of shock.
It would take her a moment to consume.
This juicy piece of gossip was more delicious than any sheâd ever consumed on social media.
âYouâre right. Children canât be measured in terms of money. Lysander is too heartless by saying to buy off your relationship with the children. Money canât buy off the bond between you and the kids. He really doesnât know what children mean to a mother.â
Hertha ranted, standing up for Thalassa.
After finishing, she heaved a sigh, âBack when we were penniless, we hustled for money and lived on the edge. Now that we have money and can be with the kids, theyâre taken away. What the heck?â
Thalassa wiped away the tears at the corner of her eyes. âThere must be a way.â She said.
âWhat will you do?â Hertha asked.
