Evelyn froze in place as if struck by a blow. She had intended to vent her anger on Thalassa, but then she broke down in tears. âYouâre not following in my footsteps, are you? Thalassa, itâs my fault. Iâm sorry I left you without a father.â
At the mention of âfather, a flood of resentment surged in Thalassaâs heart.
Tears began to drip onto the back of her hand.
If it werenât for Bruce, she wouldnât have been in such a mess.
But what was the use of saying all that then?
She leaned forward and hugged Evelyn tightly. It was no time for blaming each other. They needed to stick together and find a way out.
âMom, itâs okay. Weâll find a way out of this.â Thalassa comforted Evelyn, trying to give herself some courage too.
Even though the situation seemed hopeless, she believed there would be a way.
Evelyn knew Thalassa was trying to comfort her, but what could they do then?
Blaming her daughter wouldnât solve anything.
âItâs all my fault. If I hadnât sold the dragon pendant, maybe Lysander wouldnât have been so heartless.â
Evelyn wiped her tears, blaming herself.
Thalassa was slightly surprised. Evelyn was strong-willed, blunt, and had never blamed herself before.
Even when she knew she was wrong, she would continually find excuses to cover it up or blame others to hide her mistakes.
But when it came to their children, she was actually blaming herself.
It was clear how important the children were to her.
But Thalassa knew that even if Evelyn hadnât sold the dragon pendant, the outcome would have been the same.
That was because Lysander hated her. He would have done anything to torment her.
Taking the children away was the ultimate punishment.
Why would he miss such an opportunity?
âAll right, Mom. Donât blame yourself too much. Iâll figure something out. Weâll get through this. Itâs late, you should get some rest.â
She gently stroked Evelynâs back as a gesture of comfort.
Evelyn wiped her tears and said, âAll right, you should get some rest too.â
Thalassa lay on the bed. The sheets were unchanged, and still carried the sweet scent of the children.
Inhaling the familiar scent, warm and comforting, could have melted anyoneâs heart.
But the little ones, who used to be around her, chirping âmommyâ, were nowhere to be found.
Thalassaâs nerves were on edge.
Even though her body was exhausted, she couldnât sleep.
Tossing and turning, the sky had already brightened.
Royal Estates.
Lysander was fast asleep when suddenly, something sat on his face, cutting off his breath.
Instinctively, he opened his eyes wide, ready to throw off the thing that was smothering him.
The soft, squishy sensation and the sweet scent told him it was one of his children, bouncing a little on his face.
A soft, childish voice came from the little one, âLazybones, the sunâs up.â
Annoyed, Lysander was about to lose his temper when he suddenly remembered, he was then a father of four. The role of a father had become his reality.
