Bruce assumed that she, out of paternal affection, persuaded Lysander to sign the investment contract.
Lysander believed that she did it out of self-interest. He thought the bonds between her and Bruce ran deep.
No wonder Lysanderâs punishment of her escalated after the gourmet competition.
He became colder and more overwhelming.
He thought she was in cahoots with Bruce, and that made him despise her even more.
And he vented all his anger on her!
But why did he ask for her opinion when signing the contract?
Could she just brush it all of if he didnât ask?
In her shock, Thalassa suddenly understood why Lysander had asked her.
He wanted to see if she really had any bond with Bruce.
Because she said to sign, he was even more convinced that her heart was with Bruce.
Thinking about this, Thalassa hated herself.
Why did she suggest him to sign?
She admitted that at the time she hoped the gourmet competition would go smoothly because her daughter was participating.
But she was more than that. She was committed to being fair in her work.
As a businesswoman, she put profit in the first place.
She thought that the gourmet competition would create profits for the Sinclair Group, so she suggested signing. That was a justifiable response. And the contract was already in Lysanderâs hands anyway..
If Lysander had no intention of signing, the contract wouldnât have appeared before him.
One wrong word had caused so much misunderstanding.
Thalassa wished she could turn back time, back to when Lysander asked her whether to sign or not.
She would definitely say no without hesitation!
This way, neither side would misunderstand her intentions.
Regretting her previous actions, Thalassa was furious with Bruce.
She glared at Bruce and said, âYouâre overthinking it, Bruce. Whether Lysander invests or not isnât something I, a low-tier secretary, can decide. No one can sway his decisions! Itâs the profits from the gourmet competition that will attract his investment. I didnât say anything!â
âThalassa, youâre too humble. Youâre not just a secretary. Youâre the mother of Lysanderâs kids.â Bruce leaned in closer with a knowing, condescending grin.
Thalassa leaned back in defense, âWhat are you doing?â She pulled back her chair and asked in fear.
Thalassa, donât be scared. Youâre my daughter. I wouldnât do anything to hurt you.â Her rejection was adamant, so Bruce reassured her that way as he distanced himself.
âIâm just⦠happy for you.â He said.
âIâve told you, Iâm not the mother of those kids. And the kids are not Lysanderâs!â Thalassa gazed into his eyes. Feeling fraught, she hastily denied any relationship with the children f âThalassa, youâre wrong. Thereâs no need to hide it Besides, having Lysanderâs kids is an honor. Many women wish to bear Lysanderâs child but they donât have the opportunity. Youâre ahead of them with a better chance of marrying Lysander. Later, you can depend on your kids and even help me. My promotion will count on you.â
Bruce was too happy to contain his greed and ambition.
He didnât expect to have a daughter who accomplished so much, bearing the children of Lysander, the king of Starhaven. And she was close with Lysander.
Whatâs more, Lysander, who was showing interest in his daughter, helped her mother out and almost beat his ass off.
Despite being beaten, Bruce was still very happy.
Thalassa was shocked.
So this is Bruceâs plan, she thought.
