Her gut was telling her it had something to do with Lysander.
Still, she didnât know the specifics. And she was itching to find out.
Her inner gossip girl was on fire.
âLet me tell you something, I almost lost my life to Lysander last night.â Thalassa was feeling down and was glad to have someone to vent to.
âWhat? You guys had a wild night, huh?â Hertha sounded surprised, but there was a hint of teasing in her voice.
Realizing the implication, Thalassaâs face turned a deep shade of red.
âHertha, can you behave yourself?â she said, flustered.
âWhat? Did I misunderstand your words just now?â
Even through the phone, Thalassa could imagine Hertha laughing uncontrollably.
âIf you continue to insinuate, Iâm going to hang up,â Thalassa warned, her ears burning.
âAlright, alright, donât hang up. Iâm on my way to your place, Hertha quickly sobered up and said in a serious tone.
âArenât you at work?â Thalassa asked, concerned.
âI didnât sleep well last night, so I took the day off,â Hertha replied.
âDidnât sleep well? Did something happen with Alaric?â Thalassa began, but Hertha cut her off.
âI wish! I was up worrying about you after your call. I couldnât sleep,â Hertha admitted, not at all shy about her feelings for Alaric.
She had fallen for him at first sight.
Unfortunately, he didnât feel the same about her.
Feeling guilty, Thalassa offered, âIâm sorry, Hertha. Let me treat you to lunch today.â
Despite the fact that Lysander had found out about her meeting with Leopold, she was grateful for Herthaâs timely assistance.
âI wonât settle for just pasta. At least treat me to a barbecue,â Hertha said, not holding back.
Order whatever you want,â Thalassa chirped.
Suddenly, the gloom that had been hanging over her head lifted. She felt like a cloud had been parted, revealing a beautiful moon. Life was so beautiful.
She had such a loving friend, a lovely baby, and a mother who adored her. Life was full of color and joy, even if there were occasional clouds.
Soon, Hertha arrived at her place.
Upon seeing her, Thalassa rushed over, hugging her like a wounded kitten seeking comfort. âOh, Hertha, you wonât believe what I went through last night. It was like, a roller coaster ride, full of ups and downs. I thought I was going to have a heart attack. And in the end, Lysander still figured everything out.â
âThere, there, darling. Donât be sad. Tell me everything that happened,â Hertha comforted her, patting her on the back and leading her to the couch, ready to listen Thalassa told her everything that had happened the night before.
She had been threatened by Leopold to go to a restaurant, and he had even given her a bracelet.
Lysander had called her as soon as she got home, asking her to meet him.
He knew she hadnât come from upstairs when she arrived at their old apartment complex. His icy gaze made her shiver as if he wanted to rip her to pieces.
And then, he almost found out about her dinner with Leopold. She thought she had successfully lied, but Lysander still figured it out.
He seemed omniscient, which scared Thalassa. She worried that the secret about her baby wouldnât stay hidden for long.
But Herthaâs focus was somewhere else altogether. âAnd then? Lysander found out about your date with Leopold and got angry. What happened next? What did you guys do?â
Herthaâs round eyes sparkled with curiosity as she looked at Thalassa.
Thalassa was initially worried, but Herthaâs words caused her face to turn bright red. Stop it, Hertha!
Where is your focus? Iâm trying to discuss our strategy here.*
âHa, I havenât even said anything, and youâre blushing. Did Lysander go all alpha male on you last night?â Hertha folded her arms, laughing uncontrollably at Thalassaâs playful punches.
