âItâs okay, itâs okay, Iâm fine now, mom. Donât worry.â Thalassa walked over to Evelyn, her hand lightly tracing the curve of her back, aiming to soothe her.
Evelyn knew better than anyone else that Thalassa was just putting up a brave face to keep her from worrying too much.
Evelyn raised her hand to wipe her teary eyes. âAs long as youâre okay, thatâs enough. Just be careful in the future and donât get hurt again.â
Then she stood up and headed towards the kitchen, her demeanor somber.
She knew her daughter was struggling, but what could she do? The family depended on Thalassa for their livelihood. Even if she felt heartbroken, could she really do anything to help?
The feeling of helplessness was overwhelming.
Thalassa watched Evelynâs retreating figure and felt a heartache.
If only she were stronger and more capable, her mother wouldnât have to bear so much worry and hardship.
âThalassa, itâs okay. Things will get better.â Hertha comforted her, her hand gently squeezing Thalassaâs thin shoulder. Her lips curved in a comforting smile.
Hertha had spoken out earlier in defense of Thalassa.
But seeing Evelynâs disheartened demeanor, Hertha realized why Thalassa was so hesitant to reveal her struggles.
She didnât want to burden her family with her problems, knowing they couldnât help her but would only feel more worried.
Even Hertha felt the same, though she felt for Thalassa and defended her, she couldnât do anything to change the situation.
Their excessive worry only added to Thalassaâs stress.
Thalassa turned to Hertha, her eyes filled with gratitude.
She thanked her for her comforting words, and she believed that things would get better.
The mood in the room was somber. Atticus and Dorian, who had been eagerly hoping to hear Thalassa reveal how sheâd gotten hurt, exchanged a glance of silent agreement when they didnât get an answer.
Atticus: Mom was treated unfairly by Lysander.
Dorian: Thatâs right.
Atticus: Poor Mom. With her injuries, she still has to work.
Dorian: Yeah, Mom is so pitiful.
Atticus. She mustâve accidentally broken Lysanderâs antique worth billions, and heâs bullying her for it.
Dorian: Thatâs right.
Atticus: We need to find a way to pay Lysander back for Mom, then she wonât be bullied anymore.
Dorian: Letâs find a way!
After their silent agreement, they nodded at each other determinedly.
âAlright, letâs not talk about these unhappy things anymore. Today, Elowen won first place, letâs all cheer up and celebrate for her!â Hertha raised her-voice to lighten the mood.
Thalassa also smiled. âThatâs right, Elowen is the best. Today, we should each sing a song for Elawen.â
âIâll go first!â Sophia raised her hand cheerfully. âIâll sing the new song I just learned!â
Sophia said in her adorable little voice.
After she finished speaking, she started singing. Despite her unclear pronunciation, her melody was on point, making Thalassa chuckle and Hertha bend over laughing.
The two women shared a knowing glance, amusement twinkling in their eyes.
Sophia finished her song quickly.
Thalassa and Hertha immediately applauded.
âSophia, youâre amazing. Your song was beautiful.â Thalassa said.
Hertha agreed, âThatâs right, itâs wonderful!â
âMhm, it was good.â Elowen nodded in satisfaction, her little head bobbing.
