Evelyn fretted over Astridâs health, swiftly changing her clothes and helping Thalassa pack their luggage.
Seeing this, Hertha didnât sit idle either, helping to pack the childrenâs clothing and supplies.
Once everything was packed, Thalassa began to wake the little ones. They were still lost in their dreams.
âAtticus, Dorian, Elowen, Sophia, wake up.â Thalassa gently shook their small shoulders.
Atticus woke up, rubbing his eyes sleepily. His face was filled with confusion.
Seeing Thalassa and Hertha, he asked in confusion, âMom, is it school time?â
Still drowsy, he raised his small hand to rub his sleepy eyes.
Dorian just opened his eyes for a moment, but the sleepiness was too overpowering, and he closed his eyes to continue sleeping.
It was three in the morning, the deepest part of the childrenâs sleep cycle.
Elowen didnât move at all, seemingly unaffected by whatever was happening around her. She was the heaviest sleeper of them all.
Sophia was the same, sleeping heavily. Even when Thalassa shook her shoulder, she didnât move.
Seeing the children so sweetly asleep, caught up in their dreams, Thalassa didnât have the heart to disturb them.
âBut we have to be quick. Weâre going to visit Grandmaâs sister in the countryside.â Thalassaâs voice was filled with urgency.
That urgency was impossible to hide.
Sensing his motherâs urgency, Atticus shook his head to chase away the sleepiness. He pulled his clothes towards him, and began to dress himself obediently.
For the remaining three, Thalassa had to pick them up one by one and dress them.
Dorian, disturbed from his sleep, was a bit grumpy. âMom, I want to sleep.â he muttered.
âBe good, we can sleep in the car.â Thalassa coaxed him.
Atticus, being the eldest, was his motherâs right-hand man. Having dressed himself, he came forward to help Thalassa dress Dorian.
On the other side, Hertha was changing Elowenâs clothes.
Elowen loved to sleep and eat, resulting in her chubby and solid frame. Holding her was somewhat of a task for Hertha.
But when she cooed at Elowen, her voice was full of affection.
âElowen, itâs time to wake up. If you do, there will be something yummy to eat.â
When Hertha mentioned food, Elowenâs big innocent eyes popped open. âReally? Thereâs food?â
âYep, my car is full of tasty snacks,â Hertha said, throwing out the bait.
âI can dress myself, I can.â The allure of food was too strong. Elowen, previously deep in sleep, was now wide awake and eager to get dressed. Sophia was the smallest of them all, and Thalassa had no trouble dressing her quickly.
The family, with their bags big and small, made their way out of the apartment complex.
Outside, Thalassa said to Hertha, âWeâve been up half the night. You should go back and sleep. Iâll call a cab to take them to the countryside.â Hertha replied, âCalling a cab is too much of a hassle. Iâll take them. Donât worry, Iâm a night owl.â
Hertha insisted, and Thalassa didnât argue further.
