Leopold came to a halt.
He remembered Thalassa mentioning having a boy friend.
But when he asked who the guy was, she clammed up.
He hadnât noticed her getting chummy with anyone these days.
He figured she might have made up the boyfriend thing to get him off her back..
Could it mean she still cared for himâ if she hadnât dated anyone all these years?
All Leopold wanted to know was if he still had a place in Thalassaâs heart!
Isabella noticed Leopold freeze up, so she hobbled over with her cane.
Leopold shot her a cold look, âTell me!â
But Isabella just chuckled, âTreat me to a meal and Iâll tell you.â
âAre you trying to pull a fast one on me?â Leopold spat out angrily.
âIâm just starving and need something to eat. Iâm so weak I canât remember things well. If I forget something important and donât tell you, you wonât know the real deal with Thalassa, and that would be bad,â Isabella grinned, even giving Leopold a sly wink.
She thought she was being flirtatious, but to Leopold, it was downright nauseating. It took all his restraint not to smack her.
Leopold hesitated, weighing his options heavily.
In the end, his burning curiosity about whether Thalassa really had a boyfriend and if he still mattered to her, overpowered his loathing for Isabella.
âWhere are we eating?â he growled.
âI heard the food at Everglade Hotel is great. Letâs eat there,â Isabella od.â
âIsnât that a hotel?â Leopold frowned.
âItâs a restaurant first, hotel second. Itâs for guests to rest after a meal. Weâre just going for food. What are you scared of?â Isabella said.
So, Leopold took her to the Everglade Hotel.
He wasnât drinking today anyway. As a man, he didnât have much to worry about what Isabella could do.
Once at Everglade Hotel, Isabella ordered a ton of food.
Leopold said flatly, âCan we talk now?â
He trusted the information Isabella provided about Thalassa, as all the addresses she had given him previously were accurate.
So he believed that Isabella understood Thalassa well over these years.
âDonât rush, letâs eat first. We need energy to talk,â Isabella smiled sweetly.
Leopold suppressed his distaste for her forcing himself not to leave.
After a while, the dishes arrived. Isabella portioned a piece of fish from her plate to Leopoldâs, âTry the food here. Itâs really good.â
Leopold felt sick and tossed the plate into the trash.
Isabella seemed taken aback, her smile fading to a hurt expression, âLeopold, whatâs with the attitude?
Donât you like me? Would you feel the same disgust if Thalassa was with another man?â
Leopold glared at her angrily, âNo matter what she does, sheâs a million times cleaner than you!â
Isabella was just too vile and dirty!
Five years ago, if not for her scheme, he and Thalassa would be married. Maybe they even had a few kids by now!
He wouldnât have to suffer the heartache of loving Thalassa but not being able to have her.
And he wouldnât have to grit his teeth and dine with such a repulsive woman like Isabella!
Hearing his words, Isabella frowned. Despite her shamelessness, she was still hurt.
She ate her meal in silence.
Leopold didnât touch his cutlery throughout the meal. Unable to bear it any longer, he grabbed a bottle of water nearby, poured himself a glass of lemon water, and took a sip to calm his nerves.
After drinking, he put down the glass, silently staring off into space. He was waiting for Isabella to finish eating before telling him about Thalalla.
