Thalassa glanced up and spotted a handsome man with short chestnut hair, all dressed up in a silver-
grey suit, radiating an aura of a sunny lad.
It was Leopold!
After shoving Isabella aside, he walked over to Thalassa, his eyes soft with concern. âAre you okay?â
he asked gently.
Thalassa shook her head.
Isabellaâs mother quickly stepped in, helping her daughter up. She prepared to give the man who pushed her daughter a piece of her mind, but stopped in her tracks when she noticed his high-and-
mighty aura, like that of a rich young master.
So, she didnât dare to lash out at him, instead venting all her anger at Thalassa. âThalassa, have you no manners? How could you treat an injured person like this? You really behave like a child whoâs been raised by a mother alone!â
This was more than just an insult, it was a clear mockery.
Leopold frowned, ready to intervene.
But Thalassa, seething with anger, beat him to it. âShe was about to hit me, didnât you see that? From what I see, Isabellaâs unruliness is all thanks to your bad influence!â
âHow dare you talk to your elder like that? Iâm your aunt, and you disrespect me in such a way!â
Isabellaâs mother was red-faced and thick-necked in rage. If it werenât for the fact that she had to hold Isabella to prevent her from falling again, she would have slapped Thalassa right then and there.
Thalassa was appalled at the shamelessness of this mother-daughter duo. They bullied others yet couldnât stand a taste of their own medicine!
A surge of anger flared within Thalassa. To reason with these people was a total waste of time.
Thalassa, fuming, retorted, âSo, you remember youâre an elder, huh? But the words coming out of your mouth are even worse than a three-year-oldâs.â
Isabellaâs mother was about to confront her.
Isabella held her back. Suddenly, the once overbearing woman seemed to have changed, becoming reasonable and understanding.
âMom, calm down. I just slipped a little. Iâm not hurt.â
Then, she turned to Leopold, who was standing beside Thalassa.
Her once bruised and swollen face had slackened a bit, seeming to have aged overnight with wrinkles appearing on her cheeks.
Considering herself young and beautiful, she flashed Leopold a flirtatious smile, her voice soft and sweet, âLeopold, I know you didnât mean to push me. Itâs okay,!I donât blame you.â
Leopold felt nauseous seeing her insincere smile. His eyebrows furrowed and he said sternly, âYou were about to hit Thalassa! Apologize to her!â
âYou didnât hear what Thalassa said about my daughter Isabella, why should Isabella apologize?â
Isabellaâs mother immediately fought back, her arrogance unabated.
Thalassa replied, âI came to discharge her from the hospital and help her get a ride home. Was I here to scold her?â
Isabellaâs mother was seething.
Isabella interrupted her, âMom, stop.â
She turned to Thalassa and said, âI may have said things out of line just now. Iâm sorry, I was wrong.â
Over the years, she had been in many situations with Clark and knew how important it was to make timely concessions to achieve a goal.
Apologizing wasnât a big deal.
As long as it could win Leopoldâs favor and dispel his negative impression of her, she would even be willing to kneel if necessary.
Isabella apologized easily, seeming sincere and submissive.
This left Thalassa a little taken aback.
If she didnât forgive Isabella, sheâd appear petty.
But remembering what Isabella had said and the hand she had raised, Thalassa couldnât bring herself to forgive her, no matter what.
