Thalassaâs lip twitched slightly after listening to her mom. If she told her mom that sheâd returned the car to the company, Evelyn would probably blow her top.
But hey, there was always another day to break the news.
After dinner, Thalassa headed out to pick them up.
She arrived at the hospital where Isabella was being cared for.
She walked into the ward, her memory guiding her to Isabellaâs room.
Halfway there, a man suddenly emerged from a room.
The man had a bandage wrapped around his waist and one leg, and he needed a crutch to walk.
Thalassa thought he was just an ordinary patient, so she didnât pay him any attention and intended to walk past him.
But the guy blocked her path. His tall figure stood in front of her, and then he opened his mouth in a pained voice, âThalassa, itâs you. Youâre here to see your dad, arenât you?â
The word âdadâ seemed to trigger something fragile in Thalassa. She looked up sharply at the man in front of her. Upon closer inspection, she realized that this wasnât just any man, it was Bruce!
Thalassa instantly went on guard, stating coldly, âDonât mistake me for someone else. I donât have a dad!â
With that, she tried to walk past him:
But Bruce stepped forward, grabbing her hand, âThalassa, itâs all my fault. If Iâd known your mom didnât have an abortion all those years ago and gave birth to you, I wouldâve stepped up and performed my duty. I wouldâve raised you, spoiled you. Your mom lied to me and she said that she had an abortion.â
Bruceâs voice was filled with regret and self-reproach.
Looking into his eyes, Thalassa could clearly see the paternal love there.
As she listened to his words, watched his expression, Thalassaâs usually tough exterior softened unexpectedly.
Growing up, âfatherâ had always been a distant concept for Thalassa.
Every time she saw other kids being spoiled by their fathers, she couldnât help but feel lonely.
Especially after her cousin, Celia, had passed away. Celiaâs father had fallen ill and died not long after due to grief.
These events gave Thalassa a deeper understanding of âfatherly loveâ. It was a love as grand as a mountain, as deep as the ocean.
A fatherâs love for his daughter could be so profound that it turned into sickness from longing.
She too had yearned for a father who would love her.
When she was young, that was just a pipe dream.
But now, out of the blue, there was someone claiming to be her father!
While she was resistant, she couldnât fight the deep-seated yearning for a fatherâs love, Thalassa twisted her wrist, pulling her fiand from his, âItâs all in the past. You have your life, I have mine. Letâs just pretend we donât know each other. And,â Thalassa looked at him calmly, stating seriously, âdonât do anything to hurt my mom again. Like what happened a few days ago. If you do, Iâll have you thrown in jail!â
Bruce sighed lightly at her determined expression, speaking in a plaintive tone, âThalassa, youâve misunderstood me. I was only joking with your mom. I heard sheâs still single, I thought she still had feelings for me. I got carried away, couldnât control myself and my emotions. I still have feelings for her.â
âI donât want to hear it!â Thalassa interjected firmly, her anger flaring.
Seeing her about to explode, Bruce immediately shut up, quickly saying, âOkay, okay, if you donât want to hear it, I wonât say anymore.â
He then pulled out a bank card from his pocket and handed it to Thalassa, saying, âThereâs twenty grand on this card, the pin is your momâs birthday. Take it, consider it compensation for the years of responsibility Iâve shirked.â
Thalassa glanced at the card, then pushed it away as she was disgusted, âDonât make me sick, I donât want your money!â
