Thalassa immediately said, âI canât take your kind offer. Tell Mr. Sinclair that Iâd rather take the bus.â
After saying this, she walked past David.
David stepped back to block her way. âMr. Sinclair said if you defy orders, you pay the price.â
Thalassa stopped in her tracks.
Even though Lysander wasnât in front of her, she still felt the pressure.
Refuse a favor and pay the price?
Was this bullying?
The key question was, was this favor because she finally accepted being kept, or was it a reward for her work?
Thalassa felt a sense of shame inside. She asked David, âIâve only worked for two days, why is he giving me a car?â
âIf people knew that Mr. Sinclairâs secretary takes the bus to work every day, it would make him feel dishonored,â David said calmly.
Giving the car to Thalassa was Mr. Sinclairâs task for him, he had to complete it.
No matter what, he had to deliver the car to Thalassa and make her willing to accept it.
âThen I can take a taxi every day, right?â Thalassa said.
âIsnât taking a taxi essentially the same as taking the bus? Ms. Everhart, the car is a perk of the position. Even if it were someone else in this position, they would be treated the same. What are you fussing about?â David retorted.
âAre you serious?â Thalassa asked, half-believing.
âWhen have I ever lied?â David said with a smile.
Thalassa thought, âYouâve lied plenty of times. Werenât you just deceiving me yesterday? You said Charlotte and Lysander have some kind of relationship, but you didnât clarify what kind.â
Thatâs why she let Charlotte go to Lysander, but she was misunderstood to be trying to send another woman to seduce him so she could leave safely.
If doing so could really allow her to leave safely, sheâd be more than happy.
The problem was, Charlotte once said, even if she were Lysanderâs fiancée, it wouldnât stop Lysander from having other women. But these women would always just be playthings and could never replace Charlotte.
Even if Thalassa let Charlotte go to Lysander and let her into Lysanderâs office, it couldnât change Thalassaâs current situation.
It would only make her more embarrassed and hard to deal with.
âWhat if I donât accept this car?â Thalassa said.
âThen Mr. Sinclair will come and deliver it to you himself,â David said.
Thalassa felt fear at the thought of Lysander personally delivering the car to her.
To avoid trouble, Thalassa took the keys from David. âItâs so kind of you.â
âWeâre colleagues. Never mind,â David said.
Thalassa didnât want to say anymore to him. In case Evelyn came down with the kids to go to school and saw David, that would be a problem.
Thalassa pressed the car key and got into the car. She started it and drove off.
She got her driverâs license in college but hadnât had a chance to drive in years.
Her driving skills were really poor.
When she reached the entrance of the community and passed through the automatic gate, she braked too late and almost hit the gate.
And it was an emergency stop.
David followed behind her. Seeing her emergency stop, he also made an emergency stop, almost rear-
ending her.
With such driving skills, was Mr. Sinclair not worried about her having problems on the road?
David thought about this and couldnât help but find it amusing.
Thalassa drove thrillingly all the way and finally arrived at the Sinclair Group.
