Thalassa froze up a bit, but she mustered the courage and stepped in.
She could have easily ditched this, but thinking about the guests, she figured she should at least whip up some coffee.
Otherwise, people might think she was a lousy secretary. After all, Mr. Sinclairâs old friend was here, and she should at least play the host.
She just wanted to pop two cups of coffee on their table and make a graceful exit from the office.
But, she didnât see this coming.
She never thought that when Charlotte said she was Lysanderâs old friend, she meant it in this way.
Had she known this, sheâd rather die than come here.
Thalassaâs mind was racing, but she kept a professional smile on her face. She stepped in and put the coffee aside without looking at the desk. âMr. Sinclair, your coffee is here.. If thereâs nothing else.â
Just as she was about to say sheâd leave if there was nothing else, Charlotte cut her off.
âMs. Everhart, thank you.â Charlotte stood up, distancing herself from Lysander, and said to Thalassa, âThe receptionist was so clueless to block me at the entrance. If it werenât for your permission, I wouldnât have got to see Lysander.â
Thalassa was taken aback. She instinctively looked at Lysander, only to meet his icy, stern gaze. It was a single but powerful look, and it hit her fragile heart hard.
Thalassaâs heart skipped a beat. âMs. Ravensong, didnât you call Mr. Sinclair before coming?â
âI didnât want to disturb Lysander, heâs so busy. Lysander, I wonât bother you anymore. Iâll leave first.
Letâs catch up another time.â Feeling the oppressive aura around him, Charlotte quickly said goodbye and wanted to escape.
As Charlotte left the office, Thalassa hastily followed.
Lysanderâs voice echoed. âMs. Everhart, stay here.â
Thalassa halted, a cold sweat breaking out on her back.
The stifling air around her made it hard for her to breathe. She managed a small smile, facing Lysander. âMr. Sinclair, any further instructions?â
Lysander got up from behind his desk and approached her. His tall figure and long legs made him look like a mountain casting a large shadow, threatening to engulf Thalassa. Fear choked her breath. She instinctively wanted to flee, but before she could move, he held her chin with his long, strong fingers.
âYou let her up, didnât you?â Lysanderâs voice was cold, tinged with a hint of anger.
His breath made her nose hot in an instant.
Thalassaâs heart raced and she hurriedly said, âMr. Sinclair, she said sheâs your old friend.â
âSo thatâs why you let her up? Thalassa, donât make meaningless moves. You canât escape.â Lysander coldly said. He lifted her face and kissed her lips.
His passionate and strong breath took away her already unsettled breathing. His lips sealed hers. The moment their lips touched was like an electric shock, and the numbing sensation quickly spread from her lips to her heart, making her heart race.
Thalassaâs pupils dilated. Panic stricken, she reached out to push him away. âMr. Sinclair, you canât do this. We are in the office.â
Her voice was soft, almost pleading.
âThis office is mine, and so are you. Any problem?â Lysanderâs deep voice made her heart race. He held the back of her head, deepening the kiss in an increasingly domineering way.
Thalassa tried to resist, but he held her waist tightly, preventing her from moving.
They kissed for a long time, until Thalassa was somewhat out of breath. Only then did Lysander let her go.
She was weak, leaning against his chest, panting heavily.
Lysander stroked her back, holding her tightly in his arms. Even though his kiss was wild, his eyes were exceptionally cold.
Did she think she could escape by letting another woman replace her?
