Thalassa was Alina pretty antsy Wasnât A. Smclair a bachelor? Why the heck would a motherâinâ
law show up looking for him?
Did he be the knot on the down low?
She really couldnât wrap her head around these rich geopleâs lives.
As a secretary part of her job was dealing with the bossâs problems.
âIâve never heard of Mr. Sinclair getting hitched. Are you guys sure you havenât crossed your wires? Ho w about this? Let her chill for a sec. Iâll be right down.â
It this lady was a phony, she couldnât just let her run up and bother Mr. Sinclair. It she did, sheâd be dropping the ball.
But it this was actually Mr. Sinclairâs mother, turning her away at the door would be stepping on toes. T hatâd be dropping the ball, too.
So she had to get to the bottom of this before she could make a call.
Ahly thek The receptionist hung up the phone, kept her smile, and politely told the woman in front of her , âMy apologies; our secretary says sheâs never heard of Mr. Sinclair getting married. She asks that you hang tight for a moment while she comes down to see you.â
Even was getting antsy. She wanted to prove her claim was legit, so she blurted out, âMr. Sinclair built a mansion for our family. He even drove my daughter home. Theyâre datina, so I really am Mr. Sinclairâs future motherâinâlaw, Let me in; I need to have a chat with Mr. Sinclair.â
Just then, the doors to the private elevator opened, and out came Lysander, radiating a noble air in his handâtailored black suit and deep purple tie.
Evelynâs voice was loud. The second the elevator doors opened, Lysander heard her claim to be his fut ure motherâinâlaw and her demand to see him.
He stepped out of the elevator and looked toward the reception desk.
âGood morning, Mr. Sinclair.â The receptionist greeted him as soon as she saw him standing straight.
Evelyn quickly turned around. She saw a handsome, regal man standing there. A man she recognized f rom before in Hollowbrook.
And the receptionist was calling him Mr. Sinclair.
He was Thalassaâs boss, no doubt about it.
âMr. Sinclair, wait, I need to have a word with you.â Evelyn was always straightforward. She said what w as on her mind.
This time, she was here to talk about her daughter.
Just then. Thalassa came out of the elevator. She was supposed to handle this motherâinâ
law situation.
But before she could even reach the lobby, she saw a middleâ
aged woman chasing after Mr. Sinclair, looking like she had something urgent to say.
And that middleâaged woman was her mom, Evelyn!
Oh my god, why was her mom here, and why was she looking for their boss?
Could it be that the woman who claimed to be Mr. Sinclairâs motherâinâlaw was Evelyn?
She couldnât believe that on her first day as a secretary, the first issue she had to handle for Mr. Sinclair was her own mother.
Thalassa felt a surge of panic and quickened her pace.
âMr. Sinclair, I know my daughter might not be the cream of the crop. Sheâs been through some rough patches, and they still haunt her. But sheâs a sincere and kindâ
hearted girl. If you really like her and are willing to step up to the plate, then please marry her. But if you âre just playing around and not ready to take responsibility, then please leave her alone.â
Evelyn caught up to Lysander and said what sheâd been rehearsing.
Ever since the day Thalassa came home crying, saying people thought she wasnât good enough for hi m, it had been breaking Evelynâs heart.
Even though she sometimes criticized her daughter for not being perfect, seeing her hurt was like a da gger to her own heart.
David, Lysanderâs rightâhand man, stopped Evelyn from getting any closer.
As Lysanderâs chief assistant, heâd seen countless women go gaga over Lysander, chasing after him b ecause of his looks, his background, or his wealth.
Evelynâs situation, using her daughter as an excuse to pester Lysander, was nothing new to him.
David blocked Evelyn, preventing her from following, and sternly told her, âMaâam, Mr. Sinclair doesnât f all for just anyone. There are plenty of women who want to become Mrs. Sinclair, but you need to be clear about your daughterâs real identity.â
