At the equestrian center in Starhaven.
Hertha, decked out in her sporty chic, linked arms with Thalassa as they trailed behind the head of their design team towards the heart of the horse racing track.
Leaning closer to Thalassa, Hertha lowered her voice to a whisper, âSo, I heard from the boss that the client from our last meeting wasnât too thrilled with our designs. Looks like weâve got a fresh shot today.â
Thalassa replied with a hint of regret, âHertha, Iâm really sorry. I think I blew it.â
Their previous clients were Reginald and Callum, and just when things seemed to be falling into place, Rosalind and Lysander showed up, with Reginald seeking Rosalindâs input. Given Rosalindâs status as Lysanderâs fiancée, it was a given she wouldn't be thrilled with Thalassaâs designs.
Although Thalassa excused herself midway through the dinner, it didnât take a genius to figure out that Reginaldâs rejection of her designs had Rosalindâs fingerprints all over it.
Lysander even mentioned that day how Rosalind was sensitive about his past relationship with Thalassa. To Rosalind, Thalassa was a thorn in her side, eagerly waiting to be plucked.
âHey, no need for apologies. Itâs their loss for not picking your brilliant designs!â Hertha reassured Thalassa.
The bond between them was strong, and Hertha hated to hear Thalassa beat herself up.
âHertha, maybe itâs better if you and the manager handle this new client without me. Bring me here is a mistake. Iâm afraid I might drag you down again,â Thalassa confessed, lacking confidence. She wasnât familiar with the nuances of jewelry design or how to engage clients effectively.
The design team manager had mentioned that failing to secure the previous client nearly cost Hertha her job. But considering her five-year tenure at the company, they decided to give her another chance. If they couldnât satisfy this client, Hertha would be forced to leave.
Despite being on medical leave, Hertha was summoned by the design team manager for one last opportunity to prove herself.
Thalassa was even more nervous, worried about spoiling things again.
âWhy would you think youâre dragging us down? I only sketched the first few designs; you crafted all the rest. Without you to explain the inspiration behind each piece, how can I possibly do them justice? Youâre here to boost my confidence. Just relax, and if things donât work out, Iâll just find another job. No pressure.â
Herthaâs comforting words were light and encouraging.
After hearing it, Thalassa took a deep breath so as to ease her nerves.
âDonovan, fancy meeting you here again,â someone called out ahead of them.
Donovan, leading the way, stopped to warmly greet the newcomer, âMr. Ethan, a pleasure as always. Itâs destiny that brings us together.â
âIndeed, itâs fate. Let me introduce you to our new project director, Alaric Falconer,â Ethan stepped aside, revealing Alaric standing behind him.
With a signature mischievous smirk, Alaric extended his hand, âPleased to meet you.â
âAh, so thatâs Mr. Falconer. The honor is mine,â Donovan, thrilled to be in the presence of such distinguished individuals. As he shook hands with Alaric, he noticed that Alaric was having his eyes on Hertha, who stood behind him.
Something dawned on him. Stepping aside, Donovan introduced, âThis is our departmentâs designer, Hertha Kensington. And this gentleman is the Falconer Groupâs very own Alaric Falconer, now moonlighting as the Crawley Groupâs project director. Talent truly knows no bounds.â
Hertha, with wide, astonished eyes, stared at the man before her, recognizing him instantly.
Wasnât he the vice president of the Falconer Group? What was he doing leading projects at the Crawley Group?
âDonovanâs right, meeting here must be fate. Ms. Kensington, Iâve heard much about your exceptional talent. Today, I look forward to seeing it for myself,â Alaricâs gaze, full of charm, settled on Hertha as he extended his hand, awaiting hers.
