âLysander, are you available now? Can you swing by? Thereâs something important I need to discuss with you.â The voice on the other end of the phone, Zephyrâs, held a touch of excitement.
âWhat is it, spit it out,â Lysander said.
âI canât just tell you over the phone, you need to come home.â Zephyr hesitated, âCharlotte is back in the country, sheâs at our place right now. How can we talk if youâre not here?â
Charlotte?
Charlotte Ravensong?
The heiress of the Ravensong group, the girl that Lysanderâs grandparents had arranged for him to marry when they were kids?
Over the years, Charlotte had been developing her career abroad, and they hadnât seen each other much.
He thought that no one would bring up this issue again, but it turned out that his grandfather still remembered it.
Lysander felt a headache coming on. He rubbed his forehead and said, âGrandpa, she can talk to you guys. Iâm really busy right now.â
After saying that, he hung up. He threw his phone to the side and turned to look at Thalassa, âWhat were you trying to say earlier?â
Thalassa had indeed been about to say something.
She was going to say that she had to drop out of school when she was pregnant because her belly was so big that she might miscarry She couldnât live and study like a normal person then, she had to rest in bed for a long time.
To keep the four kids, she had to quit school and focus on delivering them until they were born.
Those four kids were his. He was their father.
Thalassa opened her mouth to speak, âActually, Iâ¦
Just as she was about to speak, Lysanderâs phone, which he had thrown aside, started to ring loudly again, interrupting Thalassa.
Lysander didnât pick up the call, his deep gaze still fixed on her âI, that year,â Thalassa tried to continue, but the phone kept ringing relentlessly, as if it wouldnât stop until it was answered.
She was about to share something serious, and couldnât be disturbed.
Thalassa stopped and pointed to the phone. âYou should answer that first, Iâll continue later.â
Lysanderâs gaze shifted to the phone. He picked it up, swiped to answer, his eyebrows furrowed in obvious displeasure. In a cold tone, he asked, âGrandpa, what is it now?â
âLysander, you have to come back. Your grandma isnât feeling well, and she really wants to see you.â
Zephyr said urgently and firmly.
âTake her to the hospital, Iâm not a doctorâ Lysander replied.
He knew this must be another trick by his grandparents to lure him back home to see Charlotte.
âYour grandma got sick because she misses you too much, so you should rush back.â Zephyrâs serious voice conveyed a sense of authority.
In his younger years, Zephyr was a soldier, and he spoke with a certain forcefulness.
Lysander had been hearing this line for five years now so it was like a broken record, âIf thereâs nothing else, Iâm hanging up.â
âWait!â Zephyr immediately stopped him from hanging up, his tone softened, almost pleading, âYour grandma is getting on in years and really wants to see you settle down and start a family. Youâre already thirty and still donât have a girlfriend. Charlotte just came back. You two could consider getting married.â
*Kids are such a pain, noisy and troublesome. I donât like them. If you guys really want one, you can adopt one from the orphanage, I wonât object! Over the years, Lysander had constantly been pushed by his grandparents to get married and have kids.
Lysander was at his wits end with their nagging. Initially, he tried explaining to them that marriage was a big deal, not to be rushed into, and that it should only happen when you meet the right person, someone you have feelings for and can get along with.
But they didnât listen. Instead, they introduced him to countless eligible women, Faye being one of them.
At first, he didnât agree to have Faye as his personal secretary, but Zephyr had forced her on him.
He let it slide, and what happened?
Faye, unable to have him, had become unhinged.
