Callum's smile faded, and a shadow seemed to dance across his eyes, casting a solemn hue over his usually gentle features.
Unaware of the shift in his demeanor, Thalassa picked up her fork and said, âLetâs eat. Iâm starving.â
She forked a piece of fish, tasted it, and nodded in approval. âItâs good. Not too salty, not too bland.
Just perfect.â
Noticing Callum hadnât started eating, Thalassa asked politely, âMr. Gordon, why arenât you eating? Is something wrong with the food?â
Callum's eyes softened, masking the earlier intensity, and he smiled warmly. âNo, I was just lost in thought for a moment.â
With that, he picked up his fork, deliberately avoiding the fish and opting for other dishes instead.
After dinner, Evelyn mentioned she needed to rest, so Thalassa linked arms with her as they made their way to the hotel elevator. Their rooms were on the 20th floor, so they'd have to ride up.
Callum also decided to retire, and the three of them stepped into the elevator together. Thalassa pressed the button for the 20th floor.
Callum hadnât made a move to select a floor for a while, so Thalassa turned to him, âMr. Gordon, arenât you going to press your floor?â
âIâm staying on the 20th floor, too.â he replied.
âOh, I see. Most of the guest rooms are on the 20th floor, arenât they?â Thalassa said with a friendly smile.
âThat seems to be the case.â
They chatted until the elevator halted on the 20th floor. Thalassa and Evelyn walked towards their room, while Callum, leaning on his cane, trailing behind them. âWhich room are you in? May I have a look?â he offered.
âThis way,â Evelyn guided.
Thalassa swiped her key card and they all entered the room. Callum followed, asking, âDo you mind if I come in and sit for a bit?â
âOf course not, come in!â Evelyn welcomed him heartily.
âTake it slow,â Thalassa cautioned, making room for Callumâs cautious gait, afraid he might stumble.
With no chairs in the hotel room, Callum sat on the bed, but he was far from a man of few words.
Sociable and easygoing, he struck up a conversation with Evelyn with ease.
âSo, Thalassa is your only daughter?â he inquired about Evelynâs family life.
âYes, just one daughter. I was young and foolish once, fell for the wrong person,â Evelyn sighed.
âAnd you, Mr. Gordon, have you ever been in love?â Evelyn asked curiously.
âI was too busy chasing a career when I was younger. Now, pushing thirty, I havenât had a real romance, which is something I regret,â admitted Callum, revealing that he hadnât even experienced a first love.
âReally? With your qualities and accomplishments, there havenât been any girls whoâve shown interest in you?â Evelyn was surprised that Callum had never been in a relationship.
Thalassa sat up straighter, her expression turning serious.
Meeting Callum in Eldoria had felt different to her. His gaze seemed more intense than before.
Was it possible that Callum had really developed feelings for her? CoÕ¸tent of Drаmаոovels.cоm No, that couldnât happen. It would be a frightening prospect.
She didnât want to be a burden to anyone ever again.
She was signaling to him not to fall for a woman like her, weighed down by her past and responsibilities.
