Early the next morning, Thalassa packed her bags and set off with her mother.
Their destination was her motherâs hometown of Rivertown in Eldoria.
Thalassa had looked up Eldoria online and found it to be a place of picturesque beauty- with rolling hills, serene waters and lush greenery. It seemed like the perfect spot for a relaxing getaway. Besides, it was Evelynâs birthplace, and perhaps being there would lift some of her mother's spirits.
They had booked plane tickets for the trip.
After a two-hour flight, they arrived at Eldoria Airport.
Holding her motherâs hand, Thalassa walked to the curb to hail a cab, planning to head to the hotel she had booked.
Traveling light with only a few changes of clothes, Thalassa believed in the ease of minimal baggageâ
after all, they were on vacation, and there was no sense in being weighed down by unnecessary items.
Soon, they arrived at the hotel. Thalassa set down their luggage and took a moment to rest before turning to Evelyn, âMom, thereâs a park nearby. Letâs go check it out.â
Back in Starhaven, Evelyn always worried about bumping into Bruce or other acquaintances.
But there was no need for such concerns in Rivertown. They were surrounded by strangers, free to explore without hesitation.
Evelyn had been cooped up in Starhaven, avoiding public gatherings and seldom stepping out, likely for fear of running into Bruce.
Remaining in such a stifling environment wasn't good for anyone's well-being.
A walk outside could help alleviate some of the pent-up stress.
Evelyn nodded, âSure, that sounds nice.â
Arm in arm, the mother and daughter made their way to the nearby man-made park.
The park was a triumph of greenery, with vibrant trees and fragrant flowers, and the lake water was crystal clear.
Strolling along the lake shore, the scent of flora carried by a gentle breeze was invigorating. Thalassa felt a sense of relaxation she hadnât experienced in a long time.
She wondered if it was just her imagination, but the water in Eldoria seemed clearer, and the breeze softer and more pleasant than back in Starhaven.
It had been a while since she had felt such a liberating sense of peace.
Chatting with Evelyn, Thalassa remarked, âMom, donât you think the air here in Eldoria feels fresher than back in Starhaven?â
For the first time in a while, Evelynâs usually worried face cracked a smile, âYes, itâs definitely fresher.
Thereâs nothing like the air from home.â
Seeing her mother smile, Thalassaâs mood lifted.
As long as her mother was happy, that was all that mattered.
As they walked, Thalassaâs eyes caught a figure leaning against the railing of an artificial bridge. A man with a cane was gazing at the tranquil lake, seemingly lost in thought, oblivious to the world around him.
Something about the manâs silhouette seemed familiar.
With a hint of surprise, Thalassa approached and realized it was Callum!
âMr. Gordon, what are you doing here?â Thalassa asked in astonishment.
Callum turned around at the sound of her voice. Seeing Thalassa, his somber eyes lit up with recognition.
âThalassa? What a coincidence!â Callum said with a warm smile, then turned to greet Evelyn. Reаd at Thalassa felt terribly sorry for Callum.
