âYou think I donât get what youâre saying?â Lysander shot at Thalassa.
Thalassa was taken aback for a moment, then she quickly got the gist of it and said, âOh, I see. You knew all along that Faye was the rumor monger. Youâre a smart one, arenât you? No wonder youâre Mr.
Sinclair.â
Thalassa gave him a thumbs up, showing her admiration.
Watching her, Lysander found her praise to be charming and said, âYouâre such a goofball.â
Thalassa retorted, âMr. Sinclair, your way of praising people is really something else.â
Suddenly, something occurred to Thalassa, and she asked, âMr. Sinclair, about the design plans being stolen, you knew it was Faye all along, didnât you?â
âHow do you think you got out so quickly?â Lysander shot back without giving her a direct answer.
That was answer enough for her.
Thalassa felt a mix of anger and injustice.
If Lysander knew all along that she hadnât stolen the design plans, why then did he not react at all when she was being taken away by the police, even as she attempted to explain herself?
Thalassa blurted out angrily, âMr. Sinclair, if you knew it was Faye all along, why did you let me take the fall and get hauled off by the cops?â
She had felt helpless and wronged at the police station, worrying endlessly.
If she ended up in jail, what would become of her four children? Who would take care of them?
And what about her mother and aunt?
Without an income, not only would her children suffer, but the two elderly women would also face hardships.
Lysander walked up to her and retorted, âWhy shouldnât I have sent you to the police? You think youâre some privileged character?â
As he approached, Thalassaâs heart pounded.
She instinctively stepped back and said, âBut I was framed.â
âYou were framed? Got any proof?â Lysander advanced step by step.
Thalassa recoiled in fear, stumbled on a step, and began to fall backward.
âAh!â Thalassa screamed.
Just when she thought she was going to fall, a strong arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her back and pressing her against his solid chest.
Thalassa looked around in panic and found herself staring into Lysanderâs eyes.
His gaze quickened her heart rate.
Lysander looked at her, gently pinched her chin, and said in a low voice, âSending you to the police was a lesson, so you wouldnât be so brash and stupid in the future. Got it?â
Thalassa lost her cool and asked, âDidnât you just praise me for being smart? Now youâre calling me stupid? Isnât that contradicting yourself?â
Wasnât he complimenting her intelligence by saying she wasnât beyond hope?
Lysander fell silent.
He had never met a woman who was so shameless and full of self-praise.
If it was onyone else, he wouldnât have given a damn.
However, she was Thalassa, the woman who made Lysander feel conflicted.
Lysanderâs body had no resistance to her, and he could always find the familiar feeling of that night five years ago from her.
He liked her smell and the feeling she gave him. But he despised her conduct.
She would stoop to any level to lure men for money, and all her wit was used on men, while in other aspects, she was so foolish as to land herself in jall!
