Sneer and raged filled Thalassaâs heart, but not a trace of discontent could flicker across her face. Her hands, though, clenched tight on her lap as she endured the storm of fury and loathing churning within.
Enough words had been spoken, and if Joshua didnât lift his glass to drink, it would appear as a slight against Thalassaâs honor.
Joshua had just learned that Thalassa was Lysanderâs childrenâs mother, and his demeanor towards her was as warm as it was towards Lysander himself.
He couldnât bear the thought of her being upset.
Without hesitation, Joshua raised his glass first.
Thalassa was taken aback, her eyes widening in surprise. She had thought Susan was nothing but a sideshow, orchestrating a farce that neither Lysander nor Joshua would partake in.
She didnât expect that Joshua would actually lift his glass!
That drink was spiked â it was imperative not to drink it.
âThalassa, your sister is quite an interesting person.â Joshua said with an ambiguous sparkle in his eye, his words laced with intrigue.
His notion of âinterestingâ was surely not a compliment to Susan, but a veiled scoff at the absurdity of it all.
As Joshua prepared to sip his drink, Thalassaâs heart leaped to her throat. She blurted out, âMr.
Joshua, wait a moment!â
âHmm? Something else?â Joshua paused, turning his inquisitive gaze towards Thalassa.
Suppressing the panic within, Thalassa snatched the glass from in front of Lysander and said, âMr.
Joshua, youâve had quite enough to drink already, and you still need to drive later. Iâll take this one for the team â consider it making up for not sharing a drink with you earlier. You donât have to drink.â
No sooner had Thalassa spoken than Susan shot her a venomous, warning glare.
Thalassaâs heart clenched, she bit down hard on her resolve, choosing to ignore Susanâs menacing stare, and reached for the drink.
But Lysander snatched the glass away.
His deep, baritone voice rumbled, âWhy are you meddling when your sister is toasting us?â He emphasized the words âyour sisterâ heavily.
09:25 His profound eyes smoldered with a dark, volcanic fury, threatening to erupt at any moment.
Last time, Thalassa sent Susan to deliver him wine, which was a ploy to provide Susan a chance to seduce him!
This time, she brought Susan along. What was her intention?
He was determined to uncover Thalassaâs scheme!
Susan had been insisting she was Thalassaâs sister throughout, suggesting a close bond between them.
How close Thalassa was to Bruceâs camp!
Confronted with Lysanderâs abyssal gaze, deep and frightening as a well, Thalassaâs heart skipped a beat. She was left speechless.
âThank you for your courtesy, gentlemen, and Iâll drink ahead.â Susan chimed in with a smile, lifting her glass to her lips and downing the red wine in one gulp.
Joshua followed suit, drinking a hearty portion.
Lysanderâs eyes, deep and inscrutable, brought the glass to his lips.
As Lysander was about to drink, Thalassaâs heart tightened. Her breath hitched, and her mind raced with silent pleas: Donât drink, Lysander, please donât drink!
