(Zay's POV)

Trey be actin' like he don't love when I do this. Like he don't be waiting for me to start something just so he can stop me. But it's cool. I got my attention now, so I settle back against his chest, playing with the chain around his neck.

I glance down at my hand, twisting the ring on my finger. My promise ring. Trey gave it to me a couple weeks ago, just pulled it out and slid it on my finger like it was nothing. Like he ain't just put a permanent grin on my face for the next three days straight.

Trey notices me messing with it and lifts my hand, pressing a slow kiss to the ring. "You still cheesin' over this, huh?"

I try to play it cool. "It's nice."

He chuckles. "It's a promise."

I bite my lip, trying to hide my smile. "I know."

His hand slides up my back again, warm and steady, and I melt into him, letting my eyes close for a second. This my favorite place to be. Ain't no place safer than this man's arms.

Trey picks his phone back up, but his other hand still on me, rubbing my thigh, tracing random patterns into my skin. I watch him for a second, waiting to see if he really about to ignore me again. His focus is on the screen, but he still touching me, still keeping me close.

I sigh dramatically. "You ain't tired of that phone yet?"

He smirks but don't look at me. "Why? You gon' take it?"

I blink at him. Then I reach up and snatch it right out his hand. "Yup."

Trey laughs, shaking his head. "You somethin' else."

I hold his phone up, turning it in my hands. "What's your password?"

Trey give me a look like I just asked a dumbass question. "Zay, you know my password."

I grin. "Say it."

He leans in, lips brushing my ear. "Your birthday."

My stomach flip, but I keep my expression neutral. I unlock the phone just to prove a point, then smirk up at him. "Good answer."

Trey chuckles, squeezing my hip. "Ain't no bad ones."

I toss his phone back on the couch, then curl up against him again, feeling satisfied. Trey keep rubbing my back, fingers tracing slow circles, and I close my eyes, feeling myself relax.

A few months ago, I ain't think I'd be here. Ain't think I'd have this. But I do. And I ain't ever letting it go.
