Chapter 47: Investigation

"Yawn~" letting out a huge yawn while stretching her arms, Kiana entered the living room to see a dark-haired girl working on the kitchen.

"Morning Kiana," Mei briefly greeted before she cracked open an egg. Its contents fall down the pan, it let sizzling sounds as the egg white slowly being cook from the edge to the middle.

"Mornin' Mei..." Kiana greeted back while rubbing her eyes. It was easy to deduct that she just woke up with how she seems to be still half asleep. She approached the kitchen sink and get a glass of water to rinse her mouth. Doing so, help with waking herself up a bit.

"By the way, where's Ms. Rita?" Kiana asked as she had just noticed that Mei is currently in charge of cooking for breakfast instead of the maid.

"Ah, she said she had some errands to do so she left early in the morning." Mei replied while putting the egg into the plate.

"Is that so," Kiana has quickly lose interest and walk to the couch. She reach out for the remote and opened the television. As it was still morning, the contents of most channels are mostly just news. She wasn't interested in it but it gave her some entertainment while she braid her messy hair.

"Big sister Mei, morning." the next one to walk in the living room was Bronya. She was still in her yellow Homu onesie while also carrying a Homu plush doll. "Have you seen Glynne?"

The silver-haired girl's question has caught the attention of Kiana, "Eh, he isn't in his room?" she asked.

"Negative," the little girl shakes her head. "Bronya went to check his room a while ago but it was empty."

"That's weird, I didn't notice him going out this morning. Did you already checked if he's with Fu Hua?" Mei said.

"Not yet, Bronya will now proceed check it if Glynne's there." Bronya said as he float towards the doorway.

"Ah, please also inform them that breakfast is ready." Mei told to the little girl which she nodded in response.

The dorm has a training room. Though it isn't as big as in the one at school, it was wide enough to fit in the some training equipment. Because of this, the room easily became the favorite of Fu Hua.

The girl likes training and would never skipped a day without it. It was one of the discipline of a proper martial artist. However, Fu Hua has never considered it as such. For her, training is like meditation for her. Whenever she does so, it helps in clearing her mind, with only the sound of her fist slicing the wind entering her ears.

However, she wasn't alone today. It wasn't an uncommon occurrence, but the person she's with currently has always captured her interest.

She has a iron will, so she cannot be easily distracted by anything. But her eyes kept wandering to the boy who is training with the dummy.

He was always full of surprises. In every morning they train together, she would always find something new about him. That is why, Fu Hua can't help but notice some inconsistencies in what he is saying compared to how he move in battle.

"Hah!" Glynne shouted as he did a side kick to the training dummy. He then quickly withdraws his foot and change his posture to delivers another kick from his other foot. He never stopped his assault and continued to chain in his kicks.

Every kick is quick and precise but also quite heavy based on how much the dummy is shaking despite being bolted on the floor.

He kept insisting how he is just a backline fighter and that he is only an expert in long range fight. That is somewhat true however, the boy would sometimes display that he is very proficient in close combat. Not to a degree that is passable as a self defense like he would always say, but it is to the point that his skills would pretty much be in the level of a C rank melee specialist Valkyja.

Glynne must have a reason why he was keeping this a secret. Unfortunately, he isn't that great in hiding it. But well, it cannot be help, one just can't simply hide their true skills once in combat. Sooner or later, it would soon slowly leak out whether one would like it or not.

That said, the two just continued on on their training for a while before they heard the door opening. They stopped what they are doing and look over to see a silver head girl entering.

"Ah, Glynne" she called out the boy's name as soon as she saw him. She quickly got close and cling onto his arms.

"W-wait Bronya, I'm covered in sweat!" Glynne tried to shake her off. However her grip doesn't budge a bit.

"Recharging...." Bronya muttered under her breath making the boy raise an eyebrow. Using his other hand, he scratched the back of his head as he was feeling awkward and worried if he stinks.

They stayed like this for a few seconds before the girl let go and look at Glynne's face. "Mei said that breakfast is ready. " she just said in an impassive face as if nothing just happened. However, he could sense that she was somehow energetic compared to before as the silver-haired girl walk out of the room after finishing her task.

Glynne once again scratch the back of his head as he has a bitter smile on his face. "I guessed that enough for this morning." he said toward the other girl in the room.

"Yeah, you can't continue training without any energy afterall." Fu Hua agreed as they decided to change some clothes first before they walk towards the dining area.

There is no shortage of building construction in Soukai city. As Honkai's goal seems to be the eradication of human on earth, they would often spawn near location where there is a large number of humans.

As such, cities would often experience occasional invasion of honkai beast in which some infrastructures would get damage in the process. That said, it isn't like they could rebuild all. This is mostly cause by the lack of manpower, but some is because the owner of the building would just abandon it. One such case was the crumbling building the the maid is standing at.

"As expected, the energy here is still high." she muttered as she surveyed the surroundings.

The energy lingering in the place is still dense, but it isn't enough to spawn any honkai beast. However, the high amount of energy would still have a negative effect on a normal human body. That is why there are some barriers erected around its perimeter to stop any human entering in.

That is very fortunate for Rita, as she could continue her investigation without being interrupted. She wandered around the the broken corridors, fully intent to scan the the whole place.

The trances of explosives and battles in the place still remain. With how much the building was damaged, the infiltrator seems to have gone a bit all out. A lot of pathways has been blocked, leaving  Rita with no choice but to find another route.

"Hm?" as Rita was walking around the maze like corridors of the building, she suddenly stopped when she noticed a room that have a lower density of honkai energy than the rest. It was quite unusual as the incident has took place almost a month ago. It is normal to think that the lingering energy would have calmed down and would spread evenly by the wind.

However, this particular area, despite being in the middle, seems to reject any honkai energy.... No, it was more like the energy was afraid of going near it.

Rita entered through the blown up doors. At first glance, there seems to be nothing unusual inside of the room. Broken equipment, dried up blood, scorched marks, fallen debris, growing weeds between the cracks on walls, it was the typical sight that she has seen all throughout the building.

Even so, it does not fool Rita's observant eyes. She slowly walked into the center, where there is a chair bolted on it. She noticed a piece of cloth that was stuck in it's arms.

"So, this is the reason." Rita concluded as she could feel the honkai energy inside her body running amok when she pick it up. It was a very interesting sample so she brought out a container and put the piece of cloth inside. As she does so, she could feel the honkai energy slowly filling inside the room. This has only strengthen her conviction.

Rita was about to continue on with her investigation when she noticed the time. Bringing out a handheld holographic communication device,   she booted it up as a screen pops up with a "Voice only" message on the middle.

"Good morning, Rita." though, even with the caller's face was hidden, his voice was very distinctive.

"Good morning, Master" the maid greeted back.

"That is quite a place your in." Otto commented as it seems like the he could see the person on the other side. "Did you find something interesting?"

"Yes, I am sure Master would find this interesting." Rita said as her lips curved up. This has got the attention of the man on the other side. "I will send it to the lab later."

"I see, I am looking forward to what it is." Otto said seemingly amused. "Moving on, I believed you have something to report."

"Yes," Rita nodded, "The boy is becoming aware of your plans."

"Is that so," there was a pause as if the man on the other side is thinking about something. "I cannot really say this is not within the margin of error. Even if he completely knew of the plan, he cannot do anything about it."

"If Master says so, then there is no problem." Rita said.

"If there is nothing else to report, please continue on with your observation with the two subjects." Otto told the maid before cutting the call.

Rita turned off her communication device before she hid it. She then turned around and open her mouth, "You can stop hiding now."

As soon as those word echoed inside the room, the equipment inside begun to turn on by itself. "Oh my, as expected of the famous Maid of Schicksal. Nothing will really passed under your detection skills." a female spoke through the speakers.

"Anti-entropy...." Rita muttered in a low voice. She really can't hide her disgust to them for being their enemy. "You know it is rude to eavesdrop on a conversation."

"Says the one who trespass one of my property." the voice rebuke. "But well, I guessed we should let this one go under the bridge. As a fellow caretaker of Glynne, what do you think?"

Rita raises one of her eyebrow. '—my property', '—fellow caretaker', those words gave her a hint who she was talking to. "Oh, I didn't think I would get to talk to her mother. Please don't worry about him, he is at good hands."

The voice, Cocolia, let out an amused giggle. "I know, he might quite a feisty kid but he is very obedient if you gained his trust." she said as if she is reminiscing about the past. "Ah, a piece of advice. Don't you ever try to corner him."

"Hm, what do you mean by that?" Rita asked.

"There's no deeper meaning to it." Cocolia once again let out a giggle.

The maid was about to another question but she was quickly cut off.

"Anyways, I enjoy out little chat. Bye" as soon as she said those words, she cut the call and the speaker let out a static sounds.

Rita noticed the room's equipment all letting out beeping lights. It was not soon the she realises what is happening as she brought her scythe. She begun running straight, cutting the walls that is in her way.

Being a S rank Valkryja, she got out of the building in just mere seconds. She quickly took her distance as she turned around to look over the building. It was not soon that a chain of explosion erupted. That was the last nail to its coffin as the building couldn't handle it and crumbled down.

Rita noticed a huge crowd of people begun to gather because of the incident. Concluding that she cannot continue on with her investigation, she walk away before anyone would notice her.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.... So sorry about the delay.....

Ugh, this was one of my longest writer's block yet. I just don't know what to write in this chapter. It also doesn't help that I noticed that I missed a lot of things. Like seriously, I was so close in wanting to rewrite the whole book. But well, it's troublesome so not yet.XD
