Chapter 6 — The Door of the Record Spire

Guardian of the Deep Layers: Volume One490 words~3 min read

At the center of the city, the Record Spire towered like a blade piercing the sky.

Its surface shimmered with flowing glyphs—symbols of a world bound and ruled by documentation.

The Guardian looked up, memory surfacing like static.

He had once been part of this tower.

> “So this is… the heart of the Record.”

His voice carried both familiarity and loathing.

Beside him, the girl nodded, opening her blank book.

> “The ‘Key’ is inside.

> The only way to rewrite the laws of Record.”

They stood before the massive gate.

Ancient script covered the surface, glowing faintly.

These were the seals—manifestations of the Record itself.

The Guardian reached out, hand hovering over the symbols.

A faint response—then a sharp flash of rejection.

> “So even I can’t open it…”

He gave a bitter smile.

Though once its sentinel, he was now categorized as unwritten—a stranger to the system he once protected.

> “It’s alright. We have the book.”

The girl traced a finger across the blank page,

softly chanting.

Words not etched in ink, but spoken into being,

began to fill the space around them.

The seal’s glow flickered—

but it did not open.

Then, the tower let out a deep mechanical hum.

An alarm sounded, reverberating through stone and sky.

> “Unwritten entities detected.

> Activating Seal Reinforcement Protocol.”

From the walls emerged new foes.

More than Recorders.

More than High-Rank agents.

These were the Spire’s own Guardians.

> “Guardian—hold them off!”

At her call, he stepped forward.

Twin blades of light formed in his hands.

The Guardians moved without emotion—

But their strikes shattered stone, bent space,

and bore down with inhuman force.

The Guardian blocked and parried,

his mind caught in a loop of the same question:

> Why am I still fighting…?

But deep down, he already knew.

It wasn’t just for the girl.

Not anymore.

It was for himself—

to defy the tyranny of the written world.

To prove he existed.

> “I won’t be something recorded.

> I’ll write myself—my own way!”

With a cry, his blades flared brighter.

Not system-born light—

but power drawn from will alone.

The Guardians faltered.

And in that opening,

the girl’s voice reached its crescendo.

The entire door lit with a brilliant, resonant glow.

> “—It’s open!”

The Guardian struck once more,

scattering the last defenders.

Then he turned,

and together they leapt through the threshold.

As the doors closed behind them,

a voice echoed—not mechanical,

but eerily human.

> “Why resist…?

> The Record is proof of existence…”

The Guardian didn’t look back.

> “No.

> Feeling is proof we’re alive.”

The doors sealed shut.

Silence fell.

Ahead of them lay a sea of Records—limitless, uncharted.

And at its center,

they could sense it:

the Key.

The battle was far from over.

But the Guardian’s stride

was stronger than ever before.
