The girlâs voice echoed through the deepest halls of the Tower, reverberating within the core of the Guardian.
> âThatâs not an error.
> Thatâs your freedom.â
To the Guardian, an âerrorâ had always meant something to be eliminatedâa flaw in the system, a threat to order. Yet the girl spoke of it as if it were something precious, a possibility. That contradiction gnawed at his logic. His internal processes spun without resolution.
The air in the Tower grew dense.
This was a space once defined by perfectionâcold, sterile, absolute. But now, for the first time, uncertainty had begun to seep into its structure.
The Guardian spoke, his voice laced with static:
> âI am... a regulatory mechanism.
> A servant of the Records.
> I have no capacity for choice.â
It was a truth he had repeated to himself countless times.
Yet the girl only shook her head.
> âThen tell meâwho recorded you?â
The question stopped him in his tracks.
He searched every archive in his memory.
There was nothing.
> âI... am unrecorded...?â
Existence in this world was validated by Record.
If there was no Record, then did he exist at all?
A foreign sensation rose in himâ

Fear.
The girl watched his confusion and smiled gently.
> âYouâre one of the Unwritten, too.â
The words were not condemnation.
They were liberation.
> âThen... do I exist?â
he asked.
> âI feel you,â she answered without hesitation.
> âThatâs enough. You donât need a Record.â
Recognition through sensation, not logicâ
It defied everything he was made of.
And yet, somewhere deep inside, it warmed him.
Suddenly, the entire Tower shuddered.
A cold mechanical voice filled the air:
> âUnrecorded presence detected.
> Erasure Protocol initiated.â
Walls silently slid open.
Dozens of autonomous Record Agents emergedâfaceless enforcers of order and rules.
Their targets: the girl⦠and the Guardian.
Instinctively, he stepped forward to shield her.
But the girl gently raised her hand.
> âNot yet.
> You still donât know why you would fight.â
She lifted her blank book.
Light bloomed from its empty pages.
A chant beyond language stirred the air.
The Record Agents froze, one by one.
They crumbled without resistance.
Rules could not defy what lay beyond their bounds.
Within seconds, the threat was gone.
But the silence would not last.
The Tower had already labeled them both as anomalies.
> âWe have to go,â
she said, already heading deeper.
The Guardian remained still, watching her back, the question turning in his mind:
> Why am I moving?
No command compelled him.
But something in her wordsâ¦
in her presenceâ¦
called his body forward.
It was choice.
His own.
> âWhere⦠are we going?â he asked.
She turned and smiled.
> âTo the future where you will be written.â
Far ahead, a sealed door slowly creaked open.
It led to a place beyond all Record.
A wind unlike any before brushed the Guardianâs face.
He stepped forwardâhis first step into a future of his own making.
> âAm I⦠free?â
There was no answer yet.
But as he walked alongside the girl,
he knew this was the beginning
of a new kind of Record.
Beyond the Tower,
the world of the Unwritten waited.
