After their encounter with the white shadowâObserver No.0â
the world fell silent once again.
But this silence was not emptiness.
Something was stirringâ
the record was preparing to change shape once more.
> âRecord resynchronizationâ¦â
The Guardian echoed the phrase aloud.
> âAligning our will with the readerâs gaze.â
The girl, too, was beginning to internalize what it meant.
Until now, they had carved their own records into this world.
But those records were now being readâ
interpretedâ
and responded to.
And those subtle mismatchesâ¦
were beginning to cause distortion.
> âIt feels like weâre co-authoring a story.â
The Guardian nodded.
> âThen we need a point of alignmentâ
> a coordinate to meet on.â
They stood atop a broad, open hillâ
which they named the Land of Choice.
No obstacles.
A place where their intent could be projected in every direction.
When they raised the Book of the Unwritten,
its pages opened naturally.
A question surfaced once again:
âBegin Resynchronization?
They exchanged glancesâ
and nodded in silence.
The choice had already been made.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
Not rejection.
But acceptance.
> âBegin.â
The girl spokeâ
and the world shuddered.
Their vision inverted.
All recorded memories,
intentions,
and words
rose into view.
Everything they had ever inscribed
was now being readâ
all at once.
> âAhâ!â
The Guardian dropped to one knee.
Something poured into his mindâ
understanding from another.
Not perfect comprehension.
Not pure empathy.
But an understanding laced with mismatchâ
with conversion,
with otherness.
> âSo this is⦠resynchronizationâ¦â
The girl gasped.
Her magical flow became unstable.
The Book of the Unwritten pulsed a warning red.
âSync ratio: 72%. Threshold exceeded. Adjustment recommended.
The voice came from within the Book itself.
> âNo goodâ¦
> At this rate, weâll stop being usâ¦â
> âBut if we reject it now,
> the record will shatter againâ¦â
Their minds trembled.
And thenâ
the âpresenceâ returned.
Observer No.0â
now clearer than ever,
taking on a more human form.
The once faceless shadow now had outline,
limbs,
and an outstretched hand.
âEstablish point of coordination.
Present core intent.
The Guardian slowly stood.
He took the girlâs hand.
> âOur coreâ¦
> is the will to face the record,
> even if we are not bound by it.â
The girl nodded.
> âI was someone who went unread.
> But now⦠someone sees me.
> And I want to take responsibility for the record I leave behind.â
At that momentâ
a column of light pierced the sky.
Their shared intentâ
emitted through the Bookâ
passed through the shadow of the Observer.
Light and shadow merged,
settling into harmony.
âResynchronization complete.
New record coordinates registered.
The wind blew againâ
gentle, familiar.
The fields swayed.
The sky returned to a soft blue.
They stood quietlyâ
and smiled.
> âSo this is what it means⦠to write together.â
The girl whispered.
The Guardian, still looking at the Book, nodded.
> âTo record is not just to write.
> Itâs to be read.
> Only then does it become realâ¦
> Isnât that right, reader?â
The figure of Observer No.0
was already gone.
But its presenceâ
was now part of their record.
And at the bottom of the final page of the Book,
a new title had appeared:
â[The Convergence of Recorder and Observer]
The story had already begun to moveâ
toward its next coordinate.
