The way out of the Labyrinth of Forgotten Dreams proved surprisingly easy. As soon as Flora took the Shield of Truth in her hands, the tangled corridors seemed to straighten themselves into a direct path leading to the light. The illusions and ghosts of the past vanished. Naeri, Caelan, and the other Keepers, who were waiting for her, greeted her with reverent awe. They saw the change that had come over Flora. And the Shield in her hand radiated a soft, silvery glow.
When they emerged into the daylight, Son, Brenn, and Masefeg were already waiting. Seeing Flora safe and sound, and with the shining Shield in her hand, they let out joyous cries.
"Captain! You did it!" Son exclaimed, his face splitting into a wide grin. "I knew you'd handle it! This Shield... it's worth a whole chest of Golden Bears!"
Flora smirked. "Thank you, Son. It's worth much more. This is the power of Truth. It will help us in the fight against the Darkness."
The return to the Sea Wanderer was triumphant. The entire crew poured onto the deck to welcome their captain. Raylen and Turville looked at the Shield, at a loss for words.
Flora showed the artifact to the Keeper Elders.
"You have done it, Child of Memory," said Lianna. "You passed through the Labyrinth and retrieved the Shield of Truth. This is a great feat."
"But this isn't all," Flora reminded them. "We still need to find the Spear of Light."
"The Spear of Light..." Caelan said thoughtfully. "The legends say it is hidden in the very heart of the volcano we call the Sleeping Dragon. In a place called the Forge of the Ancients. But the path there is even more dangerous. And it is guarded not by illusions, but by very real, fiery sentinels."
"We will manage," Flora said firmly. "Now that we have the Shield of Truth, we can distinguish truth from falsehood. As for the fiery sentinels... well, we've dealt with fire before."
They began to prepare for the new expedition. But the Darkness was not about to wait. It delivered its counter-strike.
It happened on the third night after Flora's return from the Labyrinth. The Sea Wanderer was anchored in the quiet bay.

Flora was awakened by the alarmed cry of the watchman.
"Captain! We're under attack! From the sea!"
She sprang up, grabbed "Whisper," and ran out onto the deck. What she saw made her blood run cold.
From the dark depths of the bay, enormous, black, squid-like creatures were rising, with a multitude of writhing tentacles. Their eyes glowed with a malevolent, phosphorescent light. They moved quickly, surrounding the Sea Wanderer.
"Sea demons!" Turville cried out, his face white with terror. "Ancient beasts, spawn of the Fracture!"
The sailors and Keepers rushed for their weapons. But crossbows and swords were almost useless against these beasts. The monsters' tentacles were already coiling around the Wanderer's sides, trying to crush the ship. Several sailors were seized and dragged into the dark water.
"Fire! We need fire!" Flora shouted, fending off a tentacle that tried to grab her.
Son and Brenn rushed with the crew to the barrels of tar and the torches. Burning brands flew at the sea monsters. The fire hurt them, but there were too many.
The Sea Wanderer was groaning under their pressure.
In this critical moment, Flora remembered the Shield of Truth. She rushed to her cabin, seized the Shield, and ran back out onto the deck.
"What are you going to do, Captain?" Raylen shouted, fighting back with an axe.
"I don't know!" Flora answered. "But I have to try!"
She raised the Shield above her head. Its mirrored surface shimmered dimly. Flora focused, trying to channel all her will, all the power of the Island that she now felt, into it.
The Shield in her hands flashed with a bright, dazzling light, the same as that of the healed Tree of Memory. This light struck the sea monsters, forcing them to recoil, hissing in pain.
"Yes!" Flora shouted, feeling the power fill her. "Take that, you beasts!"
She aimed the Shield at the largest monster. A beam of light burst from the mirrored surface, striking the creature squarely in its hideous head. A deafening explosion resounded, and the monster was blown into a thousand foul-smelling pieces.
The other beasts, seeing this, plunged back into the depths in terror. A few minutes later, the bay was empty.
Silence fell upon the Sea Wanderer. Then came joyous cries. They had survived again.
Flora lowered the Shield. The light faded. She felt completely drained.
"Captain..." Raylen whispered, approaching her. There was awe in his eyes. "What was that?"
"That was... the Truth," Flora answered, looking at her Shield. "And the Darkness fears it. But this is not just a weapon, Raylen. This is a key. The key to the real treasures of this island."
She knew this was just another battle. The Darkness would not rest. It would attack again and again.
But now they had a weapon. And they had hope.
They looked to the north, where beyond the dark mountains lay the Forge of the Ancients and the Spear of Light. The path there would be dangerous. But they had to walk it. For only the Spear, according to the Keepers, could awaken the ancient shipyards of their ancestors from their slumber.
