"Watching from a distance and not being able to do anything hurt more than i anticipated."

Jaimie-mae stepped into the hospital, gripping tightly onto the straps of her backpack to calm her shaky nerves.

She couldn't beleive she had convinced herself to even come back. Well, actually her mother had a small part in convincing her to come back. But she was the one with the legs to actually get herself there. She had actually paced outside the hospital for about twenty seven minutes, but that wasn't the point. The point was that she was there. To see him.

Jaimie-mae completely skipped over the front desk when she saw the lady she ran into last time. She didn't really find her much help the last time.

Like last time, Jaimie-mae repeated the floor and room number in her head until she was standing directly at the door. She took a deep breath, but quickly regretted it when she got a huge whiff of cleaning products. She coughed lightly into her elbow then knocked on the door. No one answered, so she knocked again, this time a little louder. Once again, no one answered. Jaimie-mae just figured he was sleeping, so she backed away from the door.

"Hi. Are you looking for someone?"

Jaimie-mae spun around quickly and spotted a young woman in scrubs who was smiling down at her.

"Um, yeah. I'm looking for Fabian Sharp," Jaimie-mae said quietly.

"Oh, he's just down here," she said as she pointed further down the hallway. "Room 144."

Jaimie-mae followed her gaze down the hallway and looked carefully at the progressively darkening hallway.

The woman must have noticed the reluctance on Jaimie-mae's face. "Would you like me to walk you down there?"

"Yes please," she said, still not taking her eyes off the hallway.

"Okay. Come on," she said cheerfully as she began walking. "Are you one of Fabian's friends."

"Ummm." Jaimie-mae didn't know what she was.

"Oh my gosh! Are you the girl that saved him?" she asked excitedly.

"I guess," Jaimie-mae said with a shrug.

"You guess? I think you are. He said that you had pretty blue eyes and brown hair. And look at that... it describes you. He also said a few other things but i think he'd he embarressed if i told you them."

Jaimie-mae looked at the woman nervously, blushing a little at her not very detailed words.

"Well, here's his room. If you need me, just call my name."

"I don't really k-"

The woman giggled slightly cutting her off. "I always seem to forget. I'm nurse Melody Page. Whats your name?"

"Jaimie-mae."

"That's a pretty name. Nice to meet you. You can go ahead inside, he's awake."

"Thanks," she said as she put her hand on the door.

She hesitated slightly but the nurse gave her a small push. "Go ahead sweety. He's going to be excited to see you. He's been complaining non-stop about how bored he's been."

Jaimie-mae let out a small laugh and pushed the door open, cringing at the slightly squeaky sound it made.

Fabian immediately spotted her as she walked into his hospital room and his excitement was clearly shown by the heart stopping smile on his face.

"Oh thank God. I thought i scared you away and you'd never come back. Hi Jaimie-mae!"

She waved shyly at him as the door closed shut behind her.

She was surprised that he seemed so excited to see her after that one visit. She didn't think she'd be the most entertaining person to hang around.

"You can come sit in the chair right here. Like i said, i promise i won't bite."

Jaimie-mae made her way over to the chair and slowly sat down.

"Are you okay? You haven't said anything the whole time," Fabian asked as he searched her face.

"Umm, yeah. Sorry. Just... nervous."

"Nervous? Do i make you nervous?"

"No. I'm just not the biggest fan of hospitals."

"Oh okay. Well I'm glad you came back to visit me."

Jaimie-mae looked Fabian in his eyes and smiled. "You are?"

"Yeah. I was getting kind of bored of just my family visiting me. I'm leaving the hospital tomorrow."

"That's good. You won't be so bored anymore. How's your arm and your leg?"

"They're better. The cast is itchy though."

The sound of Fabian's stomach growling interrupted the short span of silence and Jaimie-mae let a melodic laugh escape her.

Fabian stared at her in awe until she realized he was looking at her.

She shifted uncomfortably in her seat. "Sorry, my laughs kind of loud."

"No. Its fine. It was my fault for staring and I've never really heard you laugh like that. I'll have to remind myself to make more weird noises so i can hear you laugh like that again."

The grin on Jaimie-mae's face only seemed to brighten as the minutes passed and Fabian couldn't help but watch her from the corner of his eye. He knew his gaze made her nervous. She was so strangely timid but he somehow liked it. She was so unaware of how much he liked her company.

Jaimie-mae unzipped her bag and rummaged through it until she found what she was looking for. "Are you allergic to anything?"

"No. Not that i know of."

"Okay, would you like one of my snacks?"

His eyes widened and he looked down at the bag of chips in his hand. "Yes please."

She passed him the bag of chips and he took them thankfully. "Your honestly a life saver." He laughed. "Its's ironic, didn't think i'd ever really get to use that sentence literally."

Jaimie-mae laughed. "I guess not."

"My mom had the hospital avoid giving me junk food. She said she didn't want me getting fat from laying around all day and eating fatty foods. You're basically working against my mom."

Jaimie-mae snatched the bag of chips from his hand as he was opening them. "Well, if you put it that way i shouldn't have given you these."

"Heyyy," he whined.

Jaimie-mae reached into her bag and brought out a container of crackers and cheese which were still cool because of the icy water she kept next to them. "You can have these."

He huffed but still took the food. "Thanks," he mumbled.

She chuckled quietly at how childish he was acting and dug into the chips herself. She noticed Fabian eyeing the chips out of the corner of her eye so she sighed as she gave into his sad puppy dog eyes.

"Here take a few. Just don't tell your mom on me."

He chuckled and took a handful of chips. "I promise i won't tell on you," he said with a wink.

After they had finished off the last bit of crumbs from their snacks and Jaimie-mae dusted off her hands, Fabian cleared his throat.

"Hey, Jaimie?"

She noticed how he didn't use her full name. She kind of liked how he said it. It sounded different the way he said her name. "Yeah?"

"My parents... they said they wanted to have you over for dinner. Or something like that," he said in a low voice.

Jaimie-mae coughed on her spit. "What?"

"My parents s-"

"No i heard you. But your parents, want me, to have dinner... with them."

"Yeah. Pretty much."

"Um. We hardly know each other though."

"Yeah. I know. But we can keep in contact with each other. I want to see you when I'm out of the hospital."

"You do?"

"Of course. Why wouldn't i want to."

"I don't know." Jaimie-mae hid her face behind her hair subtly.

"So would you come to dinner?"

Jaimie-mae felt extremely nervous that she would be meeting Fabian's parents but she didn't want to be rude and say no. "Sure."

"Okay. Cool. What school do you go?"

"Springview High. Why?"

"I was just asking because you come here after school, so i was wondering if you come far. I used to go there. Why didn't i see you before. I'm sure i couldn't have missed you."

"Ugh. I-i moved schools."

"Really. Where'd you come from?"

Jaimie-mae paused. It was a stupid decision to think back to her old school, but she did it anyway.

"Ms. Dase!" One of Jaimie-mae's friends squeaked out.

"Shhh," Jaimie-mae tried to shush her classmate.

"Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh. He has a freakin' gun," one of the girls who didn't like Jaimie-mae panicked.

"Be quiet, he's going to hear you and then shoot us."

Jaimie-mae tried to be brave for her classmates. She was the only one not making noise and hyperventilating. She was struggling to keep each of them from crying. She could feel her hands shaking as she held back her classmates in the small storage room. Her heart was beating in her ears and it was starting to get really hot.

"He's coming this way."

Jaimie-mae immediately began praying and hoping that he'd just leave the school and everyone else would be safe. However, it seemed she was a bit to late.

All the girls screamed as the storage door was swung open from its cracked position. They all cowered further into the corner as the man came forward pointing the gun at them.

Everything was moving in slow motion for Jaimie-mae. The sound was multiplied by five.

Her heart beat was almost as loud as the first gun shot and then the second and then the third that went off. However the fourth, fifth and sixth never came.

Jaimie-mae slowly opened her eyes to see the retreating figure of the gunman. Then she slowly scanned the ground and her stomach lurched and she screamed loudly.

They were gone. She couldn't save all of them.

"Jesus Jaimie-mae! What's wrong?" Fabian jumped as Jaimie-mae screamed out and broke down into tears.

He tried reaching out for her arm but she flinched away from his hand and fell backwards out of her seat. His heart broke for her as he watched her scream at the air. He felt so useless. He couldn't even get up to help her fast enough.

He quickly reached for the call button and pressed it rapidly to call a nurse.

"Jaimie-mae what's wrong? Hey. Jaimie!" he cried out. He cursed and began pressing the red button again.

Soon, the door swung open and Nurse Melody and Jayce were standing there confused.

"What's wrong?" They had yet to notice Jaimie-mae whimpering on the ground.

"Its Jaimie-mae."
