"Okay, what the hell just happened?" Hanna asked anxiously as she walked beside Aria, trying to keep up with the group's fast pace.
"Yeah, fill me in because I'm really confused," Aria requested heatedly as she turned her head to Emily, trying to get the girl's attention.
"Em, why did you do that?" Spencer asked in a shocked tone.
The five girls were walking- almost running- out of the party, getting strange looks from several people as they passed.
"I did it for her. He had it coming," Emily muttered in an untypically bitter tone.
Alison nodded hastily as she remembered tonight's events:
There she was, standing in the Kahns' cabin's backyard with the only girl - the only person - who had ever had enough effect on her to make her knees buckle, along with their three best friends, about to ask Emily a very important question.
"Will you do me the honor of being your girlfriend?" Alison asked wholeheartedly.
Emily didn't hide the smile that spread on her face the second she heard the question and responded quickly. "Yes, Ali. Of course I'll be your girlfriend."
Alison smiled softly and brought Emily into a tight hug before kissing her sweetly on the lips. Both girls turned to their friends and saw grins plastered on their faces as they approached closer, sensing it was the right moment.
"Who knew Alison DiLaurentis was such a romantic?" Aria voiced. The girls all chuckled softly, shaking their heads playfully, until they heard the sound of a throat clearing behind them.
Noel Kahn and his jock friends approached, all giggling between them. "Well, what do we have here?" asked Noel in a cocky tone that Alison didn't like one bit.
That's when one of Noel's friends stepped up. "Yeah, Alison, I didn't know you were a dyke," he said, emphasizing the hurtful word. "I mean, I had a feeling about Fields here, but I didn't know you played for the other team too," he finished and all of his friends broke into a fit of drunken, loud laughter. All of them except for, surprisingly, Noel.
"Excuse me?" Alison answered in a threatening tone.
Noel's friend made the mistake of continuing to speak. "You heard me. Are you fucking Fields tonight? Is that why she turned me down at that party last week?" he asked and received a number of high fives from his friends as Alison's eyes zeroed on the jerk.
"Don't you dare speak to them like that," Spencer interjected, warning maliciously.
"Yeah!" Aria and Hanna shouted in unison.
"No, it's okay. Look, whatever your name is," Alison rolled her eyes, stepping threateningly closer to him. "I think I know why she turned you down. After all, I know things... Tiny, little, pinky-sized details," she said in a sickening, sweet tone, sticking out her pinky. "Talk to her again, and you won't be able to get as much as a half-ass handjob from some flag-turning color guard skank," she finished and stepped even closer to him.
"Bitch, you wouldn't dare," he warned.
"Try me," she finished in a challenging tone. (reply if you know which movie these lines are from! Hint: one of Sasha's movies)
The girls broke into surprised laughter while the guy got comforting pats on his back.
"Now if you'll excuse me, I have a girlfriend to fuck tonight," she said, referring to his attempt at insulting, and turned on her heels, only to turn her head back as if she forgot something, "too bad you don't." She walked over to the girls who had proud smirks on their faces and found Emily's disbelieved face. Before she could grab her girlfriend's hand, she felt a heavy one on her shoulder and turned around.
"Listen, DiLaurentis, if you don't want me to tell people what I saw here, you're gonna need to give me something in return." the same guy said and winked sloppily while keeping his hand resting harshly on Alison's shoulder.
Alison looked over to her girlfriend who had an irritated look on her face. The brunette was somewhat used to seeing guys leering at Alison, but the fact that this guy was so demanding and disgusting didn't sit well with her at all. And as she felt the alcohol that she'd had to drink earlier coursing through her veins, Emily didn't even hesitate to make the boldest move of her life. She swung her arm and punched the guy square in the face. He fell to the ground, whimpering, and his friends ran to help him while Emily grabbed Alison's hand and their group ran out of the scene.
'What a massive imbecile,' Alison thought as she squeezed Emily's warm hand.
Alison had been the one who was most surprised by Emily's blunt actions, and she couldn't get a single word out of her mouth ever since they'd left that guy on the ground. Apparently, his name was Ben, they had learned when they heard his friends call out to him after he was smacked to the earth by Emily.
They were about to ask for a ride or call one of their older siblings to pick them up, when the five girls heard someone walking up behind them. They turned around to find Noel and immediately halted in their step.
"What do you want, Noel?" Alison asked with a tired and irritated voice.
Noel put his hands up in the air in a defensive manner. "I just wanted to apologize. Look, not all of us feel like Ben. What he said wasn't funny, and I'm actually kinda happy you punched him," he finished and his hands fell limply to his sides.
"You are?" Emily asked and frowned. Why would Noel Kahn be happy that she had punched his friend? This night leaving her with so many puzzling questions.
"Yes, Emily. Now, is this the part where you guys kiss?" he asked the pair with anticipating eyes.
Alison snorted, rolling her eyes. "Shut up, Noel. But, uh... thanks," she finished in an uncharacteristically quiet voice and he nodded softly.
Just before he was about to go, he added, "Let my friend give you guys a ride." They agreed somewhat reluctantly, reasonably not rushing to call any one of their siblings, since they'd all had something to drink when they were dancing earlier, even if it was just a little bit. Aria gave Noel a kiss on the cheek in thanks before they climbed into the car. Noel's friend drove them all the way to Spencer's house where they had decided to have a sleepover, since they were truly knocked out for the night. They settled into their regular positions in the Hastings living room and nobody uttered a word as they all got ready to sleep this night off.
Finally, it was Hanna who felt obligated to speak. "Okay, so, who knew Ali was such a romantic and Em was such a badass?" she asked playfully and the girls couldn't help but laugh fondly.
Alison turned to her girlfriend and uttered gently, "Thank you."
Emily looked at her in confusion. "For what?"
The blonde smiled wholeheartedly, "For tonight." Her smile widened as she added, "And for being in my life."
Emily looked into her girlfriend's eyes. "I think I should be the one thanking you, Ali. You're amaz-"
"Okay, can we pass on the PDA? It generates depression in the ones of us who aren't in relationships." Spencer interrupted them playfully and they laughed.
The rest of the night went by easily as they played a few games and watched a movie. They all dozed off to sleep and Emily rested her arm protectively around Alison's waist.

It was 3:27 AM when Alison decided to get a glass of water from the kitchen after she had woken up with a dry throat. The events of that night still stayed with her when she had attempted to fall asleep earlier, sentencing her to a night full of thoughtful dreams that made her toss and turn.
She smartly removed Emily's arm from around her waist since she didn't want the brunette to wake up. The swimmer had a long night, after all.
Alison padded her way over to the kitchen and poured herself a glass of water. She nearly dropped the water pitcher when she heard a throat clearing sound behind her. She spun around and met Spencer's sleepy eyes. She sighed in relief.
"Spence, you scared me." she put her hand on her heart and felt its pace growing twice the normal.
Spencer leaned against the counter, "It was really nice what you did out there tonight, you know. I never pegged you for the romantic type at all, and I would've never guessed you of all people would end up with Em, but we all see the way you look at each other. We have for a while now, that's why we even joked about you two becoming a couple in the first place." She smiled at the blonde, adding, "I didn't expect to ask this in a million lifetimes, but you really do love her, don't you?"
Alison didn't hesitate as she grinned softly, "I really do, Spence. More than anything I've ever loved in my life."
The tall brunette leaned over the counter even closer and whispered in a serious voice, "I don't want to make you feel like I'm not supporting your relationship, because God knows I am, but I'm aware of what you're capable of, Ali, and I don't want to see Emily get hurt."
Alison smiled weakly at her best friend's concern for Emily and whispered back just as sternly, "I'm not going to hurt her. I've done enough of that and now I'm just ready to let that go, you know? Ready for us to finally be together. Especially after everything that's happened tonight, Emily and I are more real than anything."
"You say that now, but I swear to god, Ali, if you hurt her-"
"I'm not going to hurt her." Alison repeated stubbornly, adamant on proving her point.
"You better prove it," was all Spencer replied before turning on her heel and walking back to her sleeping spot.
"Oh, and Ali?" Spencer turned her head to look at Alison. "What if those jerks do tell everyone?" Spencer asked concernedly.
Alison thought about what Spencer said before looking over the tall brunette's shoulder and seeing her gorgeous mermaid in deep, peaceful sleep. She smiled at her girlfriend's adorableness. "Let them."
