Chapter 9

The carriage ride home was silent and awkward Gilliu and Mayron payed no mind just looking out the window.

When we got back to the Lombardy Mansion Father instantly called me to his room to have tea. I hadn't had time to change as I walked down the red carpeted halls I reached Mother and Fathers room not even a few minutes later. Raising my hand I knocked slightly

"Come in" Fathers voice was gruff as I opened the door poking my head in slightly the room smelled of something burning.

"Father you called for me?" I muttered Father didn't look happy but he motioned me over to sit. "Where's mother?" I asked "having a meeting with your Uncles" Father grumbled crossing his legs as I sat down. Tea and cakes were laid out neatly on the table as the maids were dismissed.

"Why didn't you accept to become friends with the first Prince!" He exclaimed almost instantly I flinched at his high tone "It would have been a great benefit for our family you little brat do you have no shame!" He slapped his hands on the table standing up.

"F-Father bu-but the First Prince is mean and-"

"So what if he is! You just have to deal with it next time you see the First Prince I want you to become friends with him make him like you you annoying bitch you can't do anything right except play around with your brothers all day!" Father yelled I felt tears well in my eyes Father was never like this! What happened to him this didn't make sense!

"Stupid Lombardy! Stupid little-" Father stormed around the room his gaze locking with mine intense anger burned in them it was clear

"Rossetti" he stormed up to me "you have one job" he grabbed my shoulders roughly "Become friends with the First Prince do you hear me" he demanded "B-But Fa-" a felt something burn across my cheek for a second I didn't even process what had happened before I held my cheek Father hit me...

"Your a Schuliz! Act that way!" He screamed "Do you understand you stupid little Bitch! You have one job the only task I'm ever giving you Do you under stand!?"

I nodded it was taking everything not to cry "yes father" i croaked "get out of my sight I don't want to see your face for a few days spoilt brat" he glared at me.

He didn't have to tell me twice I ran out the room covering my eyes with my arm as I burst into my room all the maids had left as I buried myself in my pillows sobbing

Father never hit me before

Father as never angry at me like that

All over the First Prince!

I cried myself to sleep my cheek swollen and hurting I had told the maids I bumped into the door by accident- They bought it pretty well maybe I should tell mother or grandfather...

But when I woke up it was morning so when I remembered last nights events I pushed that thought out of my mind.

No today is sister Florentia's birthday i don't want to cause trouble it's just a hit... just a hit it didn't bruise thankfully and the redness had faded I looked myself in the mirror crying all over again I had to get dressed Mother will ask why I'm not with Gilliu and Mayron.

Wiping my eyes with my hands I took a deep breath 'Sister Tia's birthday is today sister Tia's birthday is today I won't cry I won't cry Dad was just angry... I'll play with the first Prince and father will be happy again and say sorry... right?'

I stood there for a few minutes as the redness in my eyes faded "Maria" I called for my maid trying to stop my voice from shaking "Yes my lady?" She poked her head through the door "we have to be getting ready for Cousin Tia's birthday-"

With that Maria summoned all the maids as I got ready for the banquet.

I looked myself in the mirror white pearl shaped gems were put on ether side of my head held together like string they both met at on point and ran down with my hair which had been left as it is. The blue dress with white handcuffs a few parts had white silk as well as underneath was all white as a small blue ribbon was wrapped around the waist finishing of everything.

I couldn't smile and say thank you remembering what had happen yesterday with father-

"my lady which earrings would you like?" One of the maids asked as she showed me the jewellery snapping out of my thoughts I ended up picking simple sapphire earrings that mother had gotten me once.

I walked out after looking myself in the mirror once more my eyes weren't puffy and you couldn't tell I was hit since my cheek was no longer red.

Gilliu and Mayron were in the hall wearing red and black suits.

Father was talking with them seriously when I looked at him I felt a shiver ran down my spine maybe it was just a dream maybe I actually hit my face on the door maybe- he looked at me with a passive face instantly turning back to Gilliu and Mayron

It wasn't a dream I felt like crying all over again .

'no I can't cry I can't cry!' My thoughts screamed taking a deep breath I caught sight of mother who smiled warmly at me.

'Don't cry!'

I forgot everything when Gilliu grabbed my hand "OOOK a let's go Find Tia!!!" He dragged me off  Mayron smiled "wait up!" As the three of us marched down the hall to where Tia was standing dumb struck at all the people "Tia!" Mayron smiled as they talked a little Tia looked at me we were both silent I guess we had never talked...

"Happy birthday cousin Tia" I smiled widely like I would with anyone Tia smiled brightly back  "Thanks Rossetti"

As Larane joined us and we walked through the crowed I caught sight of grandfather I opened my mouth to call out "Grand-"

"Grandfather!" Tia yelled running into grandfathers arms Grandfather chuckled lifting Tia up...

I fell silent at the sight 'it's just one time and it's Tia's birthday so that's fine Rossetti don't be jealous' I thought to myself turning to cousin Larane we talked for a bit as Tia joined us again "come on let's open the gifts!"

Everyone was happy Larane handed Tia a box she seemed happy as she watched Tia open the small yellow box Tia hugged Larane saying thank you

"Happy birthday Tia" she said with a soft voice Tia smiled at what was in front of her red hair pins I thought when I caught sight if it looking at the small red box in my hand 'will she like my gift?'

"Thank you Larane I love it!"  Now it was my turn I looked at mother and she nodded "Um.. Big sister Tia here I got you this" I handed her the small red box it wasn't like the other gifts she might hate it. Tia opened the gift looking at it with wide eyes it was made out of emeralds to match her eye colour a simple Emerald necklace that was flower shaped "wow Rossetti you did have to" she looked at me shocked "I got it because it reminded me of sister Tia's eye colour" I whispered what I didn't expect was a hug "thank you" she said .

I was dumb struck only able to stutter in the end all I could say was "H-Happy birthday Tia"

as Gilliu frowned "hey wait open our gift" Mayron handed Tia a large black box.

I stood on the sidelines after that watching everyone smile and laugh I wanted to join to but how? I barely knew Tia we barely talked... maybe I should invite her to play with me sometime or have tea.

Yes I'll definitely do that! But when I caught sight of father laughing among the older guys I pushed that thought at the back of my mind "where is she?" A familiar voice said I looked up shocked to see the first Prince "who?" I whispered

he looked at me with a raised brow his blond hair was drawn back and he had a sly smirk

"oh your that Rossetti girl that I bumped into yesterday I'm looking for the illegitimate kid" he said then paused catching sight of Tia I glared at him

'how dare he call Tia illegitimate grandfather said she was a Lombardy so she is!' I opened my mouth to tell him that but he stormed off to Tia.

I felt a gaze burning on me I turned... Father... He was angry again angry at me I looked at my feet nervously maybe I should join mother.
