Metro Trepidation1,372 words~7 min read

"That person never revealed his identity. He always talked with a computer generated voice." Anirudh said. "When we found out that you will be retiring from the post of Chief Justice, the man told us to initiate the last phase and hasn't contacted us since."

"We didn't want to kill you, just expose you and all your deeds. You shouldn't be allowed to die in peace."

Anirudh stood up and moved towards the metro gate."We have suffered a lot." He took out a wallet from his back pocket and his eyes filled with unshed tears. "We all left our loved ones, our family... But you didn't care about all of that."

There was a brief silence."Can you tell me where is my friend?" A lady cried.

Veronica moved towards her."Do you know why there's no rescue operation till now?" She asked gently.

"I don't know." The woman whispered.

Veronica edged her towards the end of the metro and made her look outside the train. The upsetting view forced her on her knees."Please stop it." She begged, touching Veronica's legs.

"I love this person. Stop it please." Her sobs echoed around the silence."If I stop them, all of us will die. Let them walk for a while."

Veronica said, guiding her back to the hostages.

--

Mr. Bheemraj was still confused and possibly in denial."How did you plan all of this?" He uttered.

"If it was just about killing, we are trained personnel. We could have just killed you and no one would have found out. Our motive wasn't murder, it was destruction. And to make the world aware of your deeds, a hijack is the best possible way." Arjun smirked.

--

"Sir, 9 of them have arrived." A person spoke on Yudhajit's speaker.

"Okay. Keep me informed if something happens." He replied and went towards the commandos. All of the elite commandos from around the country had gathered in that room. Everyone carrying heavy gear for the operation.

From automatic assault rifles, bulletproof vests to hammers and chains."According to surveillance, they have installed sensor bombs on both sides of the metro." Yudhajit began. He opened the blueprint of the underground metro.

"One exploded, killing 3 people and a few hours ago, a team of two went for gathering intel but was caught in an ambush.

"The blueprint of the map was not as clear as it should have been. It had a lot of crosses on different parts.

"What are these crosses?" The team captain asked.

"These crosses are the gates in between the tunnels" Yudhajit pointed to the nearest gate. "We don't have to worry about these, they are blocked since the construction is over and nearest gate to them is the one near to the platform.

The Captain wanted more intel to proceed.

"It's too risky to go without knowing what could be in front of us." He said thoughtfully.

"If we can't risk human life, we can risk something else." A person from the back said. "This is a remote controlled Spy Tank, designed by an unknown scientist a decade ago in DRDO for rescuing hostages. It covers a wide angle, doesn't make much sound and the camouflage makes it hard to spot. It can be controlled by none other than an app on your phone.

"The rover moved quietly, on the middle of the ground, with night vision glasses on. Everyone looked at it admiringly.

"Give me a Glock 18," Yudhajit asked the people in front. He started wearing the bulletproof vest, while everyone stopped to watch him. He looked at them and smiled.

"Not as old as you might think." He said as he put velcros in his left shoulder and adjusted the vest.

--

"We were given a new identity again," Everyone laughed sarcastically.

"We came back home two years ago but due to the mission, we kept our distance from family." Anirudh continued. "Dr.Vivek found out his wife had died and he couldn't even see her one last time." He said. Everyone was teary.

Jagrit walked towards Bheemraj and put his gun's nozzle to his forehead."We kept our eyes on you daily; could have brutally murdered you., On second thoughts," He pressed the gun harder to his forehead. "We should have."

He pulled the trigger.

--

"Sir, something is visible now. Images are coming up."

The driver's compartment was luckily left open.

The rover kept some distance from the metro and moved up its head. The images showed a few men walking in sweat with some wires attached to them.

"Why are they not stopping?" The captain asked.

"If you see the wires, they are connected to the bombs attached to their legs," Yudhajit said as the device pointed to their legs. "And these are sensors. The moment they stop, the bombs will explode killing them all."

"So none of these can stop, they have to keep moving," Someone repeated."Yes we can't stop them from moving and we can't just move ahead ignoring that they are trapped," Yudhajit said. After thinking for a while, Yudhajit moved towards the whiteboard and drew something."So, here's the plan."

--

"Don't worry, we won't kill you in suspense." Jagrit laughed. "The gun is still in safe mode".

Meanwhile, Anirudh gave Raj and Dr. Vivek the green card for the final phase of the mission. They left with a bag.

"So our new identities started working for the Delhi Metro Railway Cooperation," Anirudh started narrating the whole operation from two years ago to present time.

"We all worked in the Violet line. Om hacked into the records and made us the employees. Arjun, Raj, and Jagrit worked at the Metro yard, making changes inside it. Om and Veronica became the operator of this metro, hacked the metro from inside, making it stop right here, every day on different shifts.

Dr. Vivek and I joined the DMRC headquarters, doing everything possible to stop them from taking any action towards the unresponsive metro. Everything went according to our plan. It was difficult sometimes, witnessing people you know and love from afar. But the most difficult thing was smuggling the explosives, guns, and gadgets inside the metro stations.

Hats off to CRPF, they were successful in failing our attempts. But we used some distraction, some reflexes and some of our mind. We made all our guns scratch from plastic. They were 3D printed and the detachable guns wouldn't raise an eye. However, bullets would definitely.

We created a diversion at one station. Jagrit and Raj started a fight off right at the checking gate. This distracted everyone for Om to insert a device into the scanner which would not detect any suspicious thing for a while. Our guns, bullets, and gadgets were past the checking gates, but for explosives, it was risky.

Yamuna bank was the perfect station for getting the explosives in. In the dark of the night, we dropped the bags above the walls, cut some barbed wires and with the help of the rope, we got in. Then, disguised as metro employees, we evaded some eyes and got into the metro."

--

All were gathered upon Bheem, no one was looking at the surveillance where the rescue operation was on the way.

The squad was on the move, a line of five was leaned on the wall, making no sound. The captain waved his left hand, signaling the other squad to take their positions. Two men covered sides of the metro, looking through their scopes.

"I see some welding, but can't get a visible shot." The person on the left said.

The captain told him to keep an eye on the welding and not fire until he hears the signal.

Meanwhile, Yudhajit tried to open the right gate. The gates were pressure locked and could only be opened from inside the metro. Yudhajit moved back as someone from National security guard took out an ignition can making a box enough for a person to go through the windshield of the metro, and pumped it out without making much sound.

Yudhajit jumped inside the metro and pressed the button which said right door. Yudhajit and company were unaware that pressing the button would open all the right gates of the metro.
