Chapter 629
Seeing Damonâs confident demeanor, clearly having a plan in mind, Brandon finally felt a sense of relief.
âOkay, I get it. But Clark and Uncle Cyrus have gone too far. Theyâll do anything to get their hands on the Sumner Group,â he grumbled.
Damon remained indifferent, commenting, âItâs not surprising. People will risk everything for money. If they donât bring me down, theyâll never get the Sumner Group.â
Even though Damon was right, Brandon still believed that Cyrus and Clark were far too ruthless. If Clark hadnât cheated back then, he wouldnât have been kicked out of the Sumner Group. Meanwhile, Brandon wouldnât have had the chance to become the companyâs CEO.
If one wanted something, one should work for it. Trying to take the easy way out would only lead to self- destruction.
After wrapping up their conversation, Brandon lingered for a little while longer before leaving.
Later, after putting Mason to bed, Nyla came downstairs to get some water.
Seeing only Damon sitting on the sofa, she looked a little surprised but greeted him before heading to the kitchen.
Damonâs eyes subconsciously followed her slender figure. She wore a light blue dress today, with a white ribbon tied around her waist. It perfectly accentuated her slim silhouette.
As she moved, the hem of her dress swayed like a blooming flower, making it hard for him to look away.
It wasnât until Nyla came out of the kitchen with a bottle of water that Damon quickly averted his gaze, pretending nothing had happened.
Nyla didnât notice his odd behavior and went back upstairs with the water.
Only after her footsteps faded on the second floor did Damon let out a sigh of relief. He couldnât understand why he had been so drawn to Nyla lately.
Taking a deep breath to calm his restless thoughts, Damon got up and returned to his study to continue working.
After Brandon left the villa, he called Valarie on his way back.
Valarie had just finished her bath and was applying a face mask.
When she saw Brandonâs name on her phone, she frowned, reluctant to answer.
Ever since they discussed a business collaboration five years ago, Brandon had claimed to have fallen for Valarie at first sight. He had been pursuing her relentlessly ever since, much to her annoyance.
To be fair, Brandon was quite attractiveâtall, over six feet, with handsome features. He was the kind of guy who turned heads on the street.
However, Valarie had no interest in dating someone younger. Brandon was six years her junior. While he still had time to play around, she was in her 30s and didnât want to waste time on a relati

future.
It wasnât until Brandonâs call came through for the third time that Valarie finally picked up.
âMr. Sumner, itâs already very late. If this is a work matter, please contact me after 8:00 a.m. tomorrow. If itâs personal, I donât think we have anything to discuss-
Before Valarie could finish, Brandon interrupted her, âValarie, guess who I saw at Uncle Damonâs place today?â
At the mention of Damon, Valarieâs expression darkened.
The memory of Nylaâs accident five years ago resurfaced, and she felt her eyes welling up as she tried to suppress her anger.
âI donât know, and Iâm not interested. Donât mention that man to me again!â she snapped.
If it hadnât been for Damon and Clark, Nyla wouldnât haveâ¦

As his words hung in the air, the other end of the line went completely silent. Brandon would have thought Valane had hung up if it werenât for the sound of rapid breathing.
After what felt like an eternity, Valarieâs hoarse voice finally came through. âBrandon, do you think this is some kind of joke?â
She had spent the last five years trying to accept Nylaâs death, and now Brandon was reopening that wound, forcing her to feel that despair all over again.
