Chapter 46
Clark stared expressionlessly at Damon, a hint of mockery flickering in his eyes. âWhat do I mean? I think you understand very well, Uncle Damon. Besides the one overseas, youâve never shown any interest in women before. Now youâre making exceptions multiple times for NylÄ , Donât tell me itâs out of respect for
me.â
âAs her husband, youâre never around when sheâs wronged. Instead of reflecting on yourself, youâre lecturing me.â Damonâs expression darkened, and he exuded an oppressive aura that sent shivers down oneâs spine.
Clarkâs confidence visibly wavered. âNext time something like this happens, please Inform me in advance, Uncle Damon. I donât want any other men near my wife I hope you understand.â
Damon sneered lightly. âIâm not that free. If you need others to inform you about her situation, maybe your marriage doesnât need to continue.â
With that, he walked away. He didnât even glance at Clarkâs displeased face.
Only after Damon disappeared at the end of the hallway did Clark take a deep breath, push open the door, and walk in.
Nyla had just finished having her wounds treated and was preparing to leave when she saw Clark walking in through the door. She frowned. âWhy are you here?â
Seeing her openly distant and indifferent expression, Clark felt a wave of helplessness. On his way there. he had already had Michael investigate. Nylaâs experiment had suddenly exploded today, and Damon had happened to be on the scene, so he had sent her over on the way.
Despite that, Clark still felt uneasy. He wished he had been there instead so that he could have protected her and prevented any harm from coming to her.
âI heard you were injured, so I came to see you.â His gaze fell on Nylaâs freshly bandaged hand. âWhat did the doctor say?â
Nyla lowered her gaze, calmly saying, âItâs nothing serious. You donât need to come over specifically next time.â
Clarkâs expression immediately turned cold. âNyla, Iâm your husband. Are you really going to let me pretend I donât know when Iâm clearly aware that youâre hurt?â
âThatâs not what I meant. I just think youâre busy, and coming over for such a small matter not only wastes time but also serves no purpose.
âDo you think your injury is a small matter?â
Under Clarkâs probing gaze, Nyla pursed her lips and remained silent.
*Do you remember when you used to tell me even if you just slipped and almost fell by accident?â
âYou said itâthat was before. People mature over time.
Clark walked up to Nyla, staring at her calm face, and said slowly, âNyla, itâs not that youâve matured. Itâs that you no longer want me to be a part of your life. You want to gradually distance us in this way and eventually kick me out of your life altogether.â

Chapter 46
Nylaâs hands trembled slightly at her side as she looked up at him.
âYouâre overthinking it. I really just think this is a small matter and not worth telling you to worry about.â
âThen why can Uncle Damon?â
Nyla furrowed her brow. What did Damon have to do with this?
âWhen the experiment went wrong earlier, your uncle happened to be in the lab. He was also injured and needed to come to the hospital for treatment. Thus, he brought me along.â
Seeing Nyla mention Damon without any change in expression, Clarkâs heart, which had been hanging. finally settled back into place.
âWell, even though heâs my uncle, heâs still another man. If you encounter any problems in the future, just call me directly.â
Nyla didnât plan to seek Clarkâs help, but she also didnât want to continue dwelling on this matter with him. As such, she nodded perfunctorily.
âGot it. Iâm going back now. You should head back to the company too.â
