Seeing Nyla so agitated, Spencer spoke up. âNyla, do you have anything else to say?â
Nyla didnât respond to him. Instead, she looked directly at Melody and asked, âYouâre sure the 30,000 dollars I gave you was hush money, right?â
For a brief moment, Melodyâs expression faltered, but she quickly nodded. âIâm sure.â
âOkay.â Nyla calmly pulled out her phone. âI recorded our call last night.â
As soon as she said that, Melodyâs face turned pale.
Gabriel, sitting nearby, tensed up, his expression darkening. His eyes narrowed, and his hands clenched on the table instinctively.
He hadnât expected thisâNyla had been cautious enough to record the conversation even in that situation.
Nyla placed her phone on the table and played the recording. The voices from the call echoed through the deadâsilent conference room. The more it played, the paler Melody became.
When the recording ended, Nyla put away her phone and looked coldly at Melody. âIf you donât want to admit it, I can show the timestamp of the recording. Or we can call the police and have them pull the phone records.â
With every word Nyla uttered, Melody was ashen with despair.
The room fell into an uncomfortable silence. All eyes were on Melody, and the looks of disdain and suspicion felt like needles piercing her skin. She wished she could disappear.

The murmurs around Melody pushed her to the brink of breaking down. Her eyes filled with tears as she looked at Nyla, guilt and regret written across her face.
âNyla, Iâm sorry. The real person who leaked the data was

Before she could finish, she caught sight of Gabriel toying with a gold ring in his hand. Her hands clenched tightly at her sides. She knew he was threatening her.
If she exposed him, her mother would be in danger.
Tears welled up in Melodyâs eyes as she choked out, âThe person who leaked the data⦠was me. Whatever punishment the company decides, Iâll accept it.â
Nyla stared at her, her gaze devoid of emotion. She had trusted Melody, and this was how she was repaidâwith a knife in her back.
âWhy did you leak the companyâs data to Contelligence?â Nyla asked.
Clearly not expecting the question, Melody froze for a moment before looking away. Why else? For money, of course.
âBut the company already investigated. Neither you nor your family received any large sums of money recently. How did you even get in touch with them? And why did you use my computer to send the data? Plus, why would they choose to release the data now? Doing so doesnât benefit them at all, does it?â Nyla pressed.
When Melody admitted to the leak earlier, Nyla instinctively doubted it was really her. It felt too much like someone was orchestrating the whole thing to frame her.
Besides, she had always trusted her instincts.
