Chapter 398
Facing Nylaâs cold, unyielding gaze, any explanation seemed inadequate.
Damon lowered his eyes and said in a deep voice, âYou donât need to worry about this. Iâll handle it.â
hether you handle it or not is irrelevant to me. Iâm planning to resign,â Nyla said flatly
A cold glint flashed in Damonâs eyes. âNyla, Iâve already told you I wonât let you resign.â
You are not important to me and have no right to interfere in my decisions. Iâm simply giving yo advance notice that you need to find someone to replace me. This isnât up for discussion,â Nyla stated firmly
A heavy silence settled in the room, creating a stifling atmosphere between them,
After an indeterminate amount of time, Damonâs hoarse voice broke the silence. âDo you really despise me this much? Would you rather resign than continue working at Prospectus Technology?â
Nyla frowned
While her decision to resign was partly because she didnât want to continue dealing with Damon, it also because she needed time to study for her exams. She wanted to succeed on her first attempt, and working would distract her from her studies.
She simply didnât feel the need to share that reason with Damon.
âIf you understand, then why insist on forcing me to stay at Prospectus Technology?â she asked.
Nylaâs gaze remained calm and her expression emotionless.
Damon, however, felt a storm of turmoil inside him, his gaze growing dimmer.
After Damon left, Valarie entered the room. Seeing that Nyla seemed stable, she finally relaxed a bit.
âWhen Damon left, his face was so grim that I thought you two had a fight,â Valarie remarked. Nyla shook her head. âAt this point, whatâs the use in arguing?â
Valarie nodded. âTrue.â
Back at Prospectus Technology, Damon was greeted by a throng of entertainment reporters gathered outside. His frown deepened.
He called Spencer and asked coldly. âDidnât I tell you to clear everyone from the entrance?â
âMr. Sumner, 1 had security chase them away, but theyâre like stubborn pestsârefusing to leave,â Spencer replied.
âThen call the police.â With that, Damon hung up.
Recalling how Nyla had tried to distance herself from him earlier, his frustration mounted, and he decided to contact Rebecca.
The phone rang for a long time before it was answered

âDamon, whatâs up?â Rebeccaâs voice was hoarse, tinged with guilt.
Damon, preoccupied with his troubles, didnât notice. He asked, âAre you free this afternoon? Letâs meet.â
âYâYes, where should we meet? At your company orâ¦â Rebecca inquired.
âIâll have my secretary book a room. Iâll send you the address shortly,â Damon said.
âOkay,â Rebecca replied.
Damon ended the call abruptly.
In the barâs private room, Rebecca finally felt a sense of relief when she heard the dial tone.
She was naked, her fair skin marked with various intimate traces.
Clothes were scattered across the floor from the door to the sofa, creating a chaotic scene that indicated how intense the previous night had been.
Just as Rebecca put her phone down, a strong hand wrapped around her waist, causing her to shiver involuntarily.
Nathaniel rested his chin on her shoulder and murmured, âWhen are you planning to break up with Damon?
Rebecca immediately pushed his hand away and frowned at him. âWhen did I say I was breaking up with him?â
Her eyes were icy, and Nathanielâs heart sank as his face turned grim. He asked, âWeâve slept together now, and you still donât plan to break up with Damon?â
